I get the same problem, I use audacity to convert my wavs into the 32/16 bit wavs to get the full 4 bars

I have a kaossilator pro+, great for looping and beat boxing, but for you I would check out groove boxes and samplers, like the electribes or MPCs

What midi interface are you using because some don't work when exchanging certian information
