Erasing all patterns on emx-1

Post by frenzer »

Howdy,
Just got the mx after being a long time first gen electribe user. Is there a quick way to wipe all the pattern memory, ie like the old es1 where you could load a blank file. Anyway so far so good, got it from ebay looks like it's in minty condition. Cheers

Welcome and congrats on the newly acquired 'tribe 8)

There is no documented way to do is I don't think, but I am seem to remember something pressing shift and one of the 6 buttons under the display (Pattern, Song, Global etc.) when powering up. As I remember it each combination of shift and a button does something different. One combination tells you the OS version and I think another might do what you want (i.e. wipe all the pattern/song memory)

Does anyone else know what each combination does ?

I'd be interested too.Does anyone know of any undocumented short cuts?I've no idea how to check the os version :?

Does the electribe ask you to confirm before it wipes your patterns?I might bak up and try the key combos but i don't want to mess up my tribe! :)

Just to say I am loving the upgrade to the emx, using the modulation can really add depth to my basslines. Anyway, one way is to go to a blank pattern like D35 press write, and shift scroll to A01 and press write again and so on....

Cool.Holding down shift and any of the first few numbers when powering on will show you the OS but one question:

What the heck is Valv wup???

I'll list what each of the shift functions does should anyone want to know:

shift+1 - not sure but several messages appear briefly and Insert SM! Protect remains on the screen. What would happen then i've no idea nor what button to press

shift+2 - <NAND> Fmt OK which i take to mean format but i don't know how to initiate it and i'm not about to find out!

shift+3 - Valv Wup. A timer count down from 155seconds,no idea whats going on but all the drum parts are lit :? after counting down the mesage i get is L>IN LIN [16] whatever that means!Valve Warmup?

Can anyone shed some light on what these cryptic messages mean?

Thats it! :)

Sounds like you're triggering the self test or calibration routines ... don't go there ;-)

I think that means you have version 1.01. The latest is 1.02 and you can grab it from here :

http://www.korg.com/service/downloadinfo.asp?DID=688

My EMX-1 has that new firmware, so I'll power it up and post what version numbers mine shows on it.

I still haven't found a key sequence for reseting the pattern/song memory. I did build a SoundDiver adaptation for the EMX-1 a while ago, so I may be able to use that to create a sysex dump that is just "blank" patterns in all bank slots. It should just be a cut and paste operation. I'll try that later and if it works I'll post the sysex file on our site here.

I've created 4 sysex messages, one for each bank A-D, that contain only "Init" patterns like you find in the top half of the D bank.

... you'll need a decent MIDI interface & sysex sending tool to send one of the fatties to the EMX-1, they're enormous. Does the job though ;-) When I get a moment I'll do a file based version that you can load from an SM card.

This is going to sound really jackassy, and I realize I'm bumping an old thread, but every time I try to send any of Daz's patches, In midi Ox I get the following error:

SysEx Output Devices: The port is transmitting data to the device. Wait until the data has been transmitted, and then try again.

I really need to clear my data banks, and I don't want to spend all day doing it. So, any suggestions?

peace
