Problem with MIDI DUMP

Post by maraki »

Hi. I have a problem. i used my ESX for a long time just as a sequencer for external synths but for me its better to use EMX for this because it have more synth parts. My problem is that i need to move my old stuff (patterns or maybe just notes from synth parts) from ESX to EMX. I checked the guide and tried to Dump notes but nothing was received in EMX. What could be wrong?

1.I pluged midi cable from ESXs out to EMXs in
2. I put both machines on the same midi channel 1 (channel of the first synth part)
3.I turned off the E in the Midi Filter.
4. I proceed the Dump in ESX. i just tried to dump pattern bank B only and "TRANSMITTING" was showed on display.
5. Anyway nothing was received in EMX

please do you have some idea where could be a problem?

Wow that's a tough one. Patterns can't be transmitted directly between the two as far as I know, so I'd imagine you'll have to:

-Have your MIDI link set from ESX out to EMX in,
-Check your MIDI filter (sounds like you have a good grasp of this already, but to be clear, "N" will have to be "O" so notes transmit. You should probably have "E" opened as well so it syncs the start/stop between them.
-Make sure each part is on the same MIDI channel, so Channel 10 by default for drums, and choose separate ones for Keyboard/synth parts 1 + 2.

From here, I imagine you'll have to prep things like pattern length, tempo, etc. to be the same (manually) then hit record on the EMX and play the two together. As far as I know, this is the closest you can get to a MIDI dump from one to the other. Good luck and post any questions.

Maybe you can make a profile backup without the card? I don't honestly know since I've never had to use it. Glad that worked for you though!

Now that I've rolled it around my mind a bit, I imagine you can even record motion sequences the same way, just make sure you open the MIDI filter to allow C and hit the motion sequence button, then record.
