88 key noise

Post by markuk »

I asked korg to fix the keys on my oasys 88 because there are about 5 keys where you can hear the springs as the key is pressed and again when released. My Oasys is 5 months old.
This sound is very distracting without headphones.
I tried a flat surfiace instead of the stand and its the same.
Does anyone know if this is very common with the oasys and if its likely it will just go the same when i get it back. Its a bit crap because it make the keybed feel a bit cheap.

I had a similar problem with my O88 but Korg Germany fixed it. Later I realised that another key is making the same noise, but as it is in the upper range it is not as bad and I can live with it.

I have the same problem on my 88. A lot of keys in the lower-middle range are making noises as the keys are pressed and released. Too bad I didn't have the time (and I forgot...) to fix it within the one year warranty period.

Does anyone have any clue as to how much it would cost to fix?...

My Oasys keys make the same noise. But so does my K2500XS, but even louder. Many of my other keyboards make similar mechanical noise. I think you're just going to have to live with it. There have been threads here complaining about it but I'm sure you'd be looking at a new keyboard design to solve it. It does not affect the actual keyboard action and response.

Kevin,

Sure, all keybeds will make some noise.

But these noises seem to appear after some use, I wonder why that is. Could it be insufficent lubrication?..

I had similar problems with a Yamaha S90ES, and they replaced the whole keybed. (Does the Oasys have a Yamaha keybed?)

i am not sure, but think that synthia once mentioned that the oasys has a yamaha keybed. maybe dan or jerry can answer that question.

Peter,

How long did it take before your keybed started making noises?

And also: after Korg fixed it, has the noise returned?..

one of the keys (not the keybed) made the noise from the first day on. before oasys i had the kurzweil and can confirm what kevin mentioned in his posting above. but this one key in the oasys was worse compared to the k2.5k. i contacted korg germany /musik meyer and sent oasys to germany where they fixed it. some time later i realised that in the upper range there was another one... but sending oasys back and forth is more risk due to size and weight so i decided to accept it and started living with it.... forgot it meanwhile unless i read this posting
