Hello Korg'is,

I read a lot about RAM/ROM and Sampling and i wonder if anybody could tell me what the difference is.

So Shahid/Nedim/Fahim please help i am new on this matter.

Also I can't read in the specs what the ROM size is ... does anybody ?

What i know and correct me if i am wrong.

If you startup the system the RAM is empty it's being flashed with the shutdown. The ROM is not and that is where all factory sound come from.

If you sample you use the RAM and if you save that it's imported to youre ROM device ?

Samples that are in ROM is automaticly loaded when you bootup the system ?

Thanks for youre help ?

Hi Sanjai,

Just to share wid u wat i feel on dat.... im a newbie here myself but on the technical aspects.....
ROM size dont matter to u coz it reflects sounds (data) permanently stored in the k/b over which u cant do any editing (within the ROM).
u mite as well stay content wid the sounds ur k/b has got for u Wink
U can store your samples using a secondary storage like a hard disk or Compact / USB flash. Your ROM remains untouched.

On your last Q, Yes, samples in ROM are loaded into de system during the boot-loading process.

ROM-READ ONLY MEMORY, its the internal storage of FACTORY SOUNDS and
it matters a lot, if its bigger you get better sounds.
RAM-RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY, its the internal storage dedicated to
SAMPLES and SAMPLING, it is erased when shuting off the synth and when
you turn it back on you have to reload.
The only exception in here is the PA800 which when you turn it off and then
turn it back on the RAM is still inside kept in FLASH which means you dont
need to reload. What the situation with the PA2XPRO will be we dont know yet.
And no, samples are not loaded during the boot process, thats only if the
option AUTOLOAD is checked in the preferences, when PA800 starts if that
option is checked it LOADS them but in 90 seconds, on the PA1X you have
to wait 9/10 min before it starts.

Hi Nedim,

So the userdk and user sounds are these in ROm/Ram/ or FLash ?
If i get you right there is also a flash which saves the ram data?

Do you know the size of the ROM and the FLASH ?

The Pa2cpro has 265mb ram check www.korg.de

Nedim is there a way to extend the 64mb Ram and flash.

Regards,
Sanjai

Hi,

PA800 works like Nedim said regarding RAM & ROM.

If you mean you make a user DK leaving the samples into your USB and access the User DK from USB each time, it's impossible, you will have to load them in RAM and more sample/loops you load into Pa's RAM, more space will be occupied and there is just 64 MB RAM storage space available, that is why I have given up the concept of importing .wav loops for my sequences, the RAM will be up and full after say about 150 loops loaded into it and I will need to make 100's of sequences using 1000's of loops.

So I have made an Indian USER DK called DESI/Bhangra Kit, you can find all 61 samples including Tabla, Dhol , Dholak, so I always use my DESI Kit for any Indian sequence and I can make any type of indian tabla /Dholak.Dhol/Bhangra styles using this kit. The quality of samples used in this kit is superb and studio level.

I have done complicated Tabla performance using DESI Kit, have listened to my styles Sequence "Chupke Chupke" on my web site www.melodytracks.com

and there are other styles sequences as well.

So the better idea is to use any USER DK for composing your styles rather than importing a new loops for each song as low RAM is the problem.

You can download DESI Kit for FREE if you like this kit. and it's very easy to load in to your PA800, just few buttons hits and Kit will be ready to use, you don't need to load each sample to each key, will be done automatically when you load the Kit, all instruction included insed the "Read Me First.doc" file.

Thanks

That's not true! The Pa2X is expandable to 256 MB. However, it comes with 128 MB.

hi guys,

shahid , you dont have to load 150 loops into your pa800, you only have to load 1 sample/loop of every taal. for example, GEDDA ,, there are alot of songs for wich you need a gedda taal ,but you dont have to load a groove for every single one of them , you can only load one gedda groove and then use it for all of those song wich you need a gedda taal for.

ciao!!!!!!!!

Hi Raul,

I am a software enginieer and i get the picture thanks for youre imput.
I think shahid has also commercial matters here.
And on the other hand you can make a lot of styles using his bhangra drumkit doing so you will spare memory.

Greets,
Sanjai

That's right !! you can make almost any Indian beat with my DESI Bhangra Kit as you can listen to the demos of sequences on my which I all mae with DESI Kit and I will be doing all of my styles sequences only with DESI Kit, I think it has all the necessary samples in there for making any Indian beat.

Graphical .JPG map for this kit is available with all musical names of each sample (bol).

Thanks
