on the ts i've been using the arp for electro bass lines mostly, or to have a staccato syncopated hit for rhythm. When I'm doing those dual basses it's usually 2 different arps with 2 diff bass programs complementing each other, usually a very steady sounding one and an open one that allows the other to be heard well

oooh - Hmmm ... I m not sure that approach will port over to M3. You might have to figure something else out. So you really use the arps .... lets see for tunes that I need bass lines in, I either actually play a real bass, or go back and play on the keys while recording in both the sequencer and audio. I do this while playing the rest of the tune - like a band might do. The sequencer can bail me out if I like one performance and can't / don't have th time - to reproduce it error free - I just go back in and tweak. Although I've gotten good at figuring out when I am saturated playing live. Then I take a many hour break, then go back and listen to what i recorded - and go from there.

So instead of using arp loops to build on, I use either chords I've played, or drum loops which I've interacted with and recorded.

I rarely use the arp throughout the song, it will be like just the verse section and the bridge will be played by hand, or the chorus might be a different arp. I've just found it easier on a synth since often you can get a funky effect there because of duration settings on certain notes that are shorter than you can play by hand, also you can gate them to make them even choppier if you like, that can make for a nice thin bass progression that doesn't bottom out

Yes, what used to be called gate on the TS also is on the m3 along with more. So if you take combi ic25, go to the Karma GE tab, solo module C - you can do this via the control surface tab, slider 3 and 4. Just those 2 sliders will give you so many flavors. Some of these are impossible to play on a real bass for ex.

I am so glad they kept the temp knob!

tonight i'm finally getting into the karma guts thanks to your suggestions, i don't know if my combis are in the same order as yours because ic25 didn't even seem to have any bass at all, i'm with the orig order so that my templates will still work, i'm so glad i went with the korg m3 and not the other gears out right now, as it's already somewhat simple to use since i knew the ts so well, sequencing is a breeze, it's just goin to be learning the bells and whistles, but i did learn how to copy a karma pattern into my sequence, i haven't figured out how to tell which track gets which of the 4 modules, it seems to default to tracks 1-4 and modules a-d, there must be a way to reassign them but i dont' see it in the page selections

ic25 = Powerful intro. Should be the same as I am NOT using the producer version. Module C is bass

If you copy the above combi to the sequencer (Shift + Rec), then goto P3 (Track Param)

Karma module track mapping in sequencer mode is P7-1. This is covered on pg. 176 - yea - I admit it - I had to read a few sections to fill in da details in my brain.

ok that was the one, i guess i was expecting a different thumpy bass sound or something, i'll check it out tonight, i'm a little more excited about karma now that i've seen the guts a bit and how they can be tweaked, i've noticed that some of the arps can be modified using the sliders such that it sounds like a completely different arp, like it removes the accent notes and leaves you with just the bottom funk notes, which is what i would use normally for a more sparse bass line, i hate when the bass is so full it covers up the whole low end
