Sorry to be gone so long . I had a family emergency on Sat which took me away from my studio and home. I also managed to catch some flu-like symptoms in the process. I have slept most of the day and night Sunday – Tuesday. I sat down with my May song two nights ago Wednesday and finished it. Yesterday I didn’t feel like I was up to talking on the net. I am posting it tonight. Please forgive me if I am slow in responding. This piece was finished in a hurry (repeat fade). Everything from about 1:43 on I did two nights ago.

Ode to Coffee

Some say that the sacred bean juice is mystical and mysterious. Being a coffee lover…I had to know. The idea of the piece was to find out the magic that happens inside my coffee machine in the early morning hours. So I captured the inner workings of the machine on my recorder. This piece is what I heard on the recording.

Addictive lead ! very nice Smile Did it begin as a panflute and evolve to a pure lead ?
Cool "talky stuff" in the back when the piano comes in.Lovely piano btw Smile
Very enjoyable.

There is that famous Passport lead sound coming out again! LOVE IT! But THEN.....

The sound evolves. Percolates if you must! Again...love it.

Very funky-pretty and cool. But THEN......

It evolves again!

The ONLY thing that really drops me is the jazzy end that, well, ends! But I must say, this is quite good. I think you got it to the point of pouring that first cup for sure.

A note on the overall sound- great. Nothing sounded off. Fun!

And get better! Sorry to hear you are sick. Nothing is worse than a summer flu!

Well, was this worth the wait? Drum roll.... A resounding heck yeah! And what a great fade that is, I love these fades when you're just dying to hear more and you realize that's actually the ending. This is such a fun, interesting piece, and I'm jealous as all get out of your creativity and ability to paint pictures with truly perfectly chosen sounds. And with your back story, it's quite amazing you've done this. I would never have guessed you weren't at your best while producing this very focused gem.

Very cool JL,

As one section leads to another, so the story changes.

Very nice flow, I like the different styles.

Couldn't have been easy with the flu, but you 'ground' your way through to produce this great sounding track Smile

Yep!
This is cool!
It's got a free form feel, but there's obvious intent, and control, and the instrumentation is impressive.
Very nicely done Jazz.
Applause
Regards,

You guys are generous as usual. Most of this piece was done weeks ago when I was lucid. I keep feeling like I never know when to stop....or....go on in my sections. That is a problem for me in music without vocals. I would have done more at the end if I had had the strength. With that being said, I still would probably not know how to end it. Thanks for listening.

Oh yeah, right after I carelessly crack a joke about Daz having oral surgery... http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35013 ...I come down with this minor thing that just zap my strenght. Don't tell me there no God of Justice.

Daz, I truly hope you are better!

AAAghh Haaa - now I know why coffee has such a complex flavor!

Hey - nice blending from one thought/voice to the next - that is cool.

Awesome selection and use of sounds - I don't recognize them all but that lead after 1:00 is killer as is your playing! What did you use for the drums? The piano at the end sounds sooooo good.

Man you must have one of them new hi-speed coffee machines - mine takes up to 5mins. so this seemed too short.

Most enjoyable to hear such variety in one tune !!

Cool

Hi Jazlover

I'm listening to this song with...yes.....my morning coffee.

This is very very good - just love the lead sound - and WHAT A PITY when it ended!!

The way the piano 'sneaks' in is really beautiful and I completely stopped thinking about coffee and the mind of your machine. I loved the pensiveness here, and then the way it took off in a jazzy way.

Regards from
Dee

Excellent work Jazz,

its exactly the kind of performance I'm trying to master myself. A lead improvisation (on the blue scale but not only) on top of a nice groove. The choice and quality of sounds is spot on. The effortless improvisation a real treat. I like the way it all develops from that solo flute, giving the tune a sort of an ethnic flavour, if I may sa so, into that thin lead introducing a modern, contemporary feel. The arrangement is well thought out for sure. Then there is the ending. It fits well and promises new good things to come. I hope you'll serve us another coffee in July.

best regards

sewa

P.S. Although I like that noise in the back, to me it sounds more like R2-D2 rather then an ordinary coffee machine Wink

Oh Yeah! I was cruising along with the "drip" and my ears were percolating quite nicely when that piano slid in and woke me up a bit only to fade out ....leaving me with the "I WANT MORE!" ....and I don`t mean the coffee! Too right Jazz!
CHEERS!

Sorry to be so slow in responding. Art, the drums are from the D1600 I believe. The piano is always Ksound samples (I recommend) run through the classic Triton. The lead is a combination of Moss and a lead in my Motif. I can't remember which programs I used.

I never know what people like. I appreciate all of yall insights and recommendations.
