Well done John.
This is an example of your talent, which is to take a difficult piece, and make it flow like silk in the breeze.
Nice!
Regards,

WoW again,

You are all being very nice, and I appreciate your comments.

My hope is to get out of this rut by October...(Hallo'ween tunes time...), but I seem really stuck right now.....

Every note I hit even after careful listening to simple song form popular ballads......slips back to a classical style....(Is it true you can't teach and old dog new tricks??? Very Happy )

Anyway, I feel I am letting you down a bit by not developing more, and by NOT working as hard to critique more completely, the great tunes many of you present us with....

This OSAM has been worth it for me...and I suspect others, and I am glad I took George and Dee serious and agreed to be a part this time!

Your Friend...Johnny, John, (ellll) Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

John, I'm not sure I understand why you can't take your excellent knowledge of harmonies and orchestration and do something rhythmical. Maybe talk to Stephen, as he often uses some excellent soft drum/percussion grooves and then plays over them with harmonies. I would be curious to hear you playing piano, for instance, over a rhythmic loop and then adding some other parts. I only say this to encourage you to break out because you keep saying you wish to do this, and not because I think you need to. But I would think it might be fun to experiment this way and then ask for feedback. You wouldn't have to do much on the percussion side if you find some loops or rhythms you could use. Just a suggestion.

Thanks, George, indeed, you are always there with good advice!!!,

And the idea is a good one.

I was started on such a few times...and just couldn't seem to get a "feel" for it, but it was work-possible!! I will try again, and in fact, I have a couple of stock drum loops I downloaded that may be a basis....

Will give it a try! Thanks for the reminder!!

John...(ellll) Very Happy Very Happy

Well, I'm definately pulling for you and crossing my fingers, because as I said, this is a dream for you and a cause of some frustration apparently as you mention it often, not being able to do anything beat based. Actually, I'm wondering if you could take soft rock or easy listening or chill or something like that, but up the ante and bring in some sophisticated harmonies and melodies, it could still be the excellent instrumentation that you do but more on a 4/4 or 3/4 steady rhythm. What you do lose with this style is the ability to speed up and slow down for emphasis which I hear you often do in your orchestrated pieces and to great effect. But instead with the rhythm being more steady and predictable you can emphasize soft and loud parts, that sort of thing. I think it's more a mental block than a 'disability' with you as you have so much musical ability. Do try something and being that you're so well known and respected in here, you've nothing to fear for criticism. Actually, the comments will likely put you over the top and enable you to do a kind of synth piece or whatever you've got in mind. Just my thoughts on your desire to break out. For me you could continue in your signature style as I love your pieces and enjoy the broader spectrum we OSAMers share because of your different approach to music composition.
