These New Tubes are awesome. I purchased the GT-ECC83's and put them in my SX a couple of days ago. I haven't had any problems with balance at all. I am definitely satisfied with the overall sound. It is true that the EH's don't compliment the potential of this machine. I have way better gain with no static noise, clear glassy like harmonics, and the fun part is tweaking around with the mods to get that tunnel like vacuum effect that was never there before with the EH tubes. I would highly recommend the GT's to anyone who has an SX. Just pull em out and stick em in. Very simple!

Has anyone tried anyother "GT" tubes besides the ECC83-S's? If so what kind of difference did it make on the EMX1. Thanks.

I got the JJ's ECC83 S and put 'em into my ESX and EMX, the sound was improved a lot...now it has more presence, clarity, less distortion with knob up,more "warmer"... Wink I'm more than happy with these tubes.

Picked up the GT tubes, not as loud as my old tubes but i still have to adjust the balance on them. But the sound is much clearer.

They're louder on my SX. I swapped the tubes around and noticed that there was a difference in volume between the EH tubes from my SX and MX. Whereas the MX distorted at low volumes i could turn the tube gain all the way up with the SX tubes in my MX but i didn't like the overall sound, so there is a difference between the EH tubes themselves which could be due to the age of the tubes..

Unless there are differences between the EH tubes themselves.. I've read a few posts saying the upgraded tubes are quieter but in my case they are louder on the SX. Perhaps not as loud as the MX but the old tubes badly distorted around 1/3rd of the way anyway. Neutral

Its not really a tube test program.
I used the level meter in Apple Logic to check the balance.

Grtz

Is there any other way to check the balance of the new tubes, eg. without software? It's just that I don't have Logic on my MacBook.. Smile

Btw, thanks for making a simple and useful tutorial!

Thanks for your reply but I live in Finland so Eurotubes is kind of tricky for me.
The easiest way for me to get real GT ECC83S (not the 9 € JJs) would be through thomann.de. Though I think that they only sell them separately.

Is there much of a probability that separate tubes will be unbalanced? Oh well, I guess the only way to find out is to buy a set and try.. Smile

Found out that using balanced 1/4 outs make the ESX sound even better. Gets rid of some of the "noise" when its not playing.
