|
|
I am a new Microkorg owner. I was wondering if all MS2000 patches out there are compatable with the Micro, or is there some reason why some of them wouldn't be.
Also, are there other patch packs that would be compatable? I'm new to the world of synth, and I learn best by reverse engineering stuff. I wanna find as many patches as I can to mess around with.
I found a few posts on here that linked to .zips of patches, and I got a couple off of a Microkorg Yahoo! group. Are there any other good spots I should be looking for patches at?
Thanks! |

Most MS2000 and all microKorg patches you'll find on the net should work with the microKorg. There are few compatibility issues (e.g. the MS2000 supports split timbres and the mK doesn't).
Try the file section of this yahoo group too :
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/korgms2000/
Probably the easiest way to audition patches with the microKorg is use my Syxplorer app from here :
http://daz.korgforums.com
... and the randomizer built into that will generate more material too
Google turns up more, for example :

Daz, thanks for all the info. I will definetly check out your app.
Also, I am noticing that some patches are a .prg extension and some are .syx. What is the difference between these extensions, and will both be recognized by your app? Again, thanks a bunch! |

.prg's are the patch files created by Korg's editor ... there are proprietary to that particular piece of software. D'oh !
IIRC the .prg files even differ between the Mac and PC versions of their editor, so they are a pain. On either the Mac or PC, I can't remember which, the .prg file is actually just a GM MIDI file containing the sysex message. So you might be able to work with those in other ways.
Anyways, no microKorg here, so can't into much more detail than that ...

That makes sense. Guess I'll just have to use more than 1 app. Thanks again for all the info. |
