If you want to learn Logic better, MacProVideo.com has great tutorials and I love their Mac player called NED. Just so nicely done. When you purchase a tutorial it downloads right into your NED player. Very very nicely done.

There is a new one on mastering using Logic plug-ins that I think is going to be excellent. Steve H. is great and explains things so clearly that you just will get it. This is the pre-release page but you can see some sample videos of this tutorial on the right there. It will be released on May 20.

I am so glad I moved to a Mac. I know Windows like the back of my hand, after developing code for it for the last 15+ years, but when I am making music I don't want that tech side of my brain to be stealing cycles from the creative side The very simple nature of Mac OS and the stability of the closed Mac platform mean that everything is that little bit easier and more transparent.

When you're sitting there trying to be a composer, musician/performer, mix engineer and all those other things ... that transparency is so important.

If you're on a budget (who isn't these days!) ... here's a way to get a good deal on a Mac. While a machine is for sale in the Apple on-line store you won't generally find it for a better price at other retailers. However once a machine gets replaced with a newer funkier model, and drops out of the Apple on-line store retailers can sell their stocks of the older machine at a discount. In the past I've picked up a previous generation Apple laptop for a great price from Amazon. That machine was the top model in the previous generation and I got it for less than the bottom model in the new generation, and specwise it was a better machine. Result !

Agreed. I got an Apple refurbished monitor, which has to be up to spec, and it works great.

I'm thinking the next iMacs that come out might be good time to make a move. They will likely have a 28 inch monitor, the i7/Nehalem chip (multithreading) Snow Leopard, and dual processor. The only thing to watch for is the amount of RAM you can install and you are likely still operating off of one main drive which means your apps and files are all on the same drive. Still it might be the cats pajamas. Just have to wait and see. They are supposed to announce 'something' in about 10 days but who knows what.

Oh yes, a new Intel Core i7 based Mac would be very cool. He's quad core and supports hyperthreading, so 8 effective cores. I think there's an i7 Extreme too, I can't remember how that differs.

Have not heard of i7 Extreme. Sounds like a synth, lol. Bet your PC i7 is speedy.
