That's it... I need a good, quality headphone to use on my O. The one I have presently is turning out to be a total disaster! Any help on this is appreciated.

Sennheiser HD650's are exquisite - among the most respected studio monitoring headphones. The earlier released HD600's are still available and are almost as good. I find both models very trustworthy - as much as my Genelec 1030A and JBL4412 monitors. They are also comfortable to wear and you do not tire of them even in long sessions.

There is little comparison between these and other popular Sennheiser models. The HD280's are poor by comparison - they colour the sound (boost) around 1000Hz. The same is true of the various HD500 series - they are not close to the 600 and 650 standard.

Sennheiser recently released the incredible HD800s but these cost about $2000.

Others swear by the top end AKG's (can't remember the actual model number for those).

Beyerdynamic DT 250's are really excellent.

Everyone prefers them in my studio to anything else, Pro Audio shops really rate them as well.

Not cheap, but I wouldn't buy anything else unless Beyer have recently brought something better out.

I didn't know about Beyerdynamic brand so I went to check it out - "Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro" - high end model at an affordable price... what do you guys think?

Vey nice, but they are open back.
Will you be using them for recording vocals as well?
If so, the DT 250's would be better as they are closed back which helps to prevent leakage on to the mic.
The Senheizers are nice as well, as said above.

I really like my Denon AHD-5000 (also closed-back). There's also the AHD-7000 out now, which (I guess!) is better.

I'd say your first decision is whether you want open or closed -- & if you need closed, I'd suggest either the Beyer or Denon.

I don't know if you have settled on phones yet, but I recommend you get both open and closed. As far as open goes, I prefer the AKG 701's, which is what I think Kevin may have been referring to. For closed, I went with the Senny's.

Sony MDR-V6;
Not sure if Sony still makes them but they excist more then 20 years and are wide used in the industry.
They have lot of detail, are clean sounding, go very low (5 hz I believe till 30 khz) and sound wonderful and accurate.

Made of metal too with a nice spiral cord. I really love it. They sound better then the much more expensive Sennheisers and the likes in my opinion.
