Hi, guys.

I don't know what went wrong, but you wouldn't believe what I have been through!

To install the cdrw option. The stupid thing would not FIT!

It took two different cdrw's and 8 days and opening up my triton about 10 times but I finally got it.

Please shoot me.

NOW!

Normal?!

What I experienced is FAR from normal.

If I had pushed even with the force of a vice grip or a hammer then it would not have gone in.

I had to open up my Triton Studio to find out exactly why the cdrw did not fit.

It did not fit because inside my Triton the back connector (the one that connects to the back of the cdrw) is not at the proper height level.

I fixed this problem by adding six washers to the two screws (3 washers to each screw) that hold the board to the plastic housing that the cdrw goes into.

I put the washers between the board and the plastic housing to raise the board up.

This fixed my problem.

I called Korg again and spoke to the same guy I spoke to before and he inststs that it's not necessary to open up the triton to install the CDRW and that if it does not fit then it's the wrong one.

I called an authorized Korg service center and I asked them about this and they told me that since the CDRW is user installable that they have never heard of this problem.

You can get the same washers I did from Home Depot.

They are the Crown Bolt #6 Washer Nylon model 86918.

One doing this modification will have to buy two packages because they come only in packs of 5.

Each package costs 50 cents.

You go to HomeDepot.com, pick a store and then put this link in your browser:

It's one of the reasons why I was glad Korg introduced USB on the Extreme.
It's great to be able to replace a drive just by unplugging it.

Yes, if you use the wrong drive, you're asking for trouble.
I believe that the original drive would come out after undoing one screw. Wink

I can't see how it's the wrong drive.

The first one I got was the same as this one and since it did not fit I sent it back.

I ordered a second one from a different source and this one is the same as the other one.

I think the law of averages points to the conclusion that my triton was designed improperly and that this is the correct drive.

It says "korg cdrw-1 8x write" on the outside of the box and it has a picture of the triton studio on the side of the box too.

Now that I have it installed, the drive works perfectly. I have tested all the functions.

If you want, I can take the drive itself out and take some pics of it and we can compare the one I have with the one that you guys have that fits and we can find out if the one I have is the same as the one you have.

Here is a link to the advertisement of the product I got:

http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:mGXeGE7qb2wJ:www.8thstreet.com/Product.asp%3FProductCode%3D8502%26Category%3DRecorders+http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp%3FProductCode%3D8502&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

If the link is dead...

It said:

Korg CDRW1X8
ProductCode: 8502
CDRW burner option for Korg Triton/D12/PA1x

Korg CDRW1X8
When you add the CDRW-1 option to your D-12 or Triton Studio your high-quality music can be written directly to CD. 8 X Burner.

Item Number: Korg CDRW1X8 8502 P1

Or you can google search for:

http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=8502

Then click on the "cached" link on the bottom of the result.

Here is a picture of the box:

Oh I see,
you had trouble not with the drive, but with the back connector not being at the right height level.
Got ya!
Well, glad you got it sorted out.

Oh yeah, I got it sorted out.

At the risk of breaking my new cdrw and my triton.

I got the first cd writer last thursday.

I sent it back on monday.

I got the second drive on wednesday.

And I finally got this thing installed correctly yesterday at 2PM EST DST

I am a very determined man, and I take risks which is why I know how to fix quite a few things.

I am not a rich guy and my Triton cost me more than my car did. So you can imagine me pulling my hair out when I took the risk and I opened up my triton about 10 times.

Now, if only I knew how to use my triton, I would be a very happy guy.

What I want to know is why I had to go through this.

Has ANYONE ELSE had this problem or has ANYONE HEARD of this problem??
