I bought an ES-1 used from ebay recently and just got the adapter I needed in order to actually hear it.
It works fine and sounds pretty good but I'm having a really hard time deleting all the patterns and songs from the previous user.
I gave up on actually deleting them and was just going to set all the samples in the patterns to blank, and then write that over the existing pattern.
However, when I try to write, it doesn't work as the manual says it should. The write button doesn't flash, and the LED screen says Er.9
Is there something I can do?
Edit: nevermind, write protect was on. that was really scary though. |

You have to turn the "write protect" function off in the global mode section.
BTW I use an ES-1 also, just curious...Did you buy the MK2 or the original ES-1?? _________________ ESX-1

Yep, finally got all the previous user's patterns and some of the samples off too.
I'm having a hard time writing when I edit samples though. it doesn't seem to actually save anything. |

Are you editing your samples in pattern mode or sample mode? _________________ ESX-1

sample mode. I want to edit some of the samples themselves, as in before creating a pattern. |

Sure, okay. Did you check to see if you had enough memory to save your sample?
You can check too see how much memory you have in global mode.
Other than that, If you turned the write protect function off, everything should be working just fine. _________________ ESX-1

memory should be fine, especially since I erased some samples. But when I try to overwrite, it doesn't seem like it's actually writing. the dashed line circling around doesn't happen. So I don't know. |

Are you trying to save a stereo sample by any chance? _________________ ESX-1

maybe. All I'm doing is fiddling with the knobs on a sample and trying to save the effects. |

If your in sample mode the only modifications you can save to a sample are truncation, normalization and time slice settings. Other than that you cannot save effects settings or parameter settings to a sample, you can only do that in pattern mode. However you can apply effects/delays to a sample in sample mode and resample the output infinitely, you can also do the same in pattern mode.
That might be what your doing
If not, let me know....Im glad to help _________________ ESX-1

I'll probably have to try that. Kinda sucks that you can't save edits to individual samples though. I would be pretty convenient. |

I am having the same problem. can't seem to erase the factory patterns from the es-1 mkii. get the er.9 error even though the global protect is off... is this simply becuase i do not have a smartmedia card installed? i would like to make my own patterns and overwrite the factory ones using the onboard samples. |

Using a smartmedia card loaded with the "empty" set (you can download from the net ) it's pretty fast and you'll have your machine ready for sampling your own sounds.
Es1 saves the tweakings in the pattern so you can easily create a new set/kit for every pattern and is a great feature, I love it.
Using kit programs in a sampler like this would be tedious.😉 |
