hi everyone.. i am new to this forum. I am planning to buy a korg radias, pad kontrol, novation x-synth, and a yamaha n8 mixer for my studio. can someone suggest the best setups that i can have using the above equipments to their best and fullest. though i have a few questions about the radias:
1. does each program have an arpeggiator and 2 step sequencers or each timbre can have an arpeggiator and 2 step sequencers? can only one of them be used for a program/timbre?(depends on the previous question)
2. is there any difference in using the radias with my existing controller and using the RD-KB? coz the novation x-synth is also a controller which i think can work perfectly once connected to the radias's in. Is there anything that the RD-KB can do with the radias that no other controller can do? will i be able to apply the split/layering stuff on my x- synth?
3. how many splits/layers can be made on the controller at a time? just as i assign keyzones to different timbres, can i assign keyzones to trigger different programs?
4.can i use the radias rack's step sequencer to trigger soft synths/audio loops/scenes in my DAW?
5.the radias manual says, 'You can use the two step sequencers to record and play back a phrase or pattern.' how can i use it to playback?
5. can my existing controller and pad kontrol be integrated to become one big controller for the radias, with more control and functions like the x/y pad that the pad kontrol has?
Someone please help me asap!
Thank you! _________________ samir |

1. Does each program have an arpeggiator and 2 step sequencers? Yes, The four Timbres share the same arp, seq1 and seq2 and have 1 of 4 options.
A) Off
B) Arpeggiator
C) Seq 1
D) Seq 2
Each Timbre has 3 Modulation Sequencers as well.
So each Program has...
1 Arpeggiator
2 Pitch Sequencers (Seq1 & Seq2)
12 Modulation Sequencers (3 for each Timbre)
2. is there any difference in using the radias with my existing controller and using the RD-KB? Yes the Radias keyboard doesn't have aftertouch. You only have four key zones and they can't be velocity switched.
3. how many splits/layers can be made on the controller at a time? just as i assign keyzones to different timbres, can i assign keyzones to trigger different programs? 4 zones with a different timbre on each, and the zones can overlap each other.
4.can i use the radias rack's step sequencer to trigger soft synths/audio loops/scenes in my DAW? Yes all sequencer data can be transmitted to midi out.
5.the radias manual says, 'You can use the two step sequencers to record and play back a phrase or pattern.' how can i use it to playback? You press down a key on the keyboard to play the sequence. You can set it to play the sequence forever or have the sequence stop when you lift the key.
5. can my existing controller and pad kontrol be integrated to become one big controller for the radias, with more control and functions like the x/y pad that the pad kontrol has? Yes, you have assign up to 5 midi controllers for the Radias.
Since each zone can have individual midi channels, your master keyboard can control the Radias's key zone that plays seq1 and another key zone that plays seq2 all going out through midi to an outboard synth. _________________
