Are you using Windows 7 ?, some people have reported problems although it works fine for me on Win 7 32 bit.

Is this an old MicroKorg (Using a USB-MIDI interface) or a new MicroKorg XL (using a USB cable direct to the micro)?
If the former, which interface are you using?

have you set the correct ports in the editor software settings/preferences?

its an old microkorg, and im using a usb/midi cable (midi in-out/out-in)

the cable works obviously, but when i look at devices in the editor i can see audio interfaces, but it wont see the micro...?

im new at this, ive been totally sofware based for ten years, except my controller.

well, there is no such thing as a 'USB-MIDI cable', any such thing that even looks just like a cable will have a interface in it, because you can't just electrically 'adapt' USB to MIDI, the USB device becomes a USB MIDI interface, it just happens to be of a rather minimal appearance.

So, I assume you mean something like the E-MU Xmidi 1x1?

There is a known problem with some of these I believe in that they seem not to pass on some of the sysex messages used by the microKorg and the editor software to communicate. at any rate, it would help to know which interface you have.

Anyway, because you're using a MIDI interface, you'll never directly see the microKorg as a device in the MIDI ports listing. The interface you are using will show up, because that is what is connected to your computer and giving your computer MIDI ports. It is effectively the same as a box with sockets on it, except it has cables coming out of it instead. MIDI is a rather 'dumb' protocol that has been around for a while. It doesn't know what is attached and will usually transmit data regardless even if something isn't attached. So picking your MIDI 'cable' interface ports would be the correct choice.

Rather than appearing as a midi device in the editor setup, some of these generic midi interfaces show up as "audio device", select this as midi input and output and you should be good to go, I use a similar device by Edirol and this works well.

and annoying, i really wanted toget into some sound design on this, but if i have to buy a midi interace just for that, i'll prob sell it on (its not really user friendly in editing sounds, forme anyway)

shame, i like the sound.
