New Korg M3 88 Arriving Tomorrow

Post by rderderian »

My new keyboard that I am getting from Guitar Center (that was on backorder from Korg for the last 2 weeks) will be arriving tomorrow. Will it have the new expanded OS loaded already?

So, I bought the ram. So I will install that and then download the 3 banks of expanded voices and then load them? Is the ram easy to install? Any precautions?

Any other suggestions on setting up the new keyboard? Any mistakes to avoid?

My prior keyboard was a Motif es8 which I just sold to get this one.

Welcome to the M3 club!

Your M3 should have the new OS installed as it's been out for a quite a while now. If not I'd get them to install it - and the expanded samples; although it is easy process to do it yourself.

I fitted the EXB-256 and EXB RAD with no issues - the instructions don't come in the card boxes - they're in the M3 Operation Guide (printed).

The only thing I'd suggest that I wish I'd done was to back up all the data straight out of the box. Install the M3 editor, install the latest Korg USB-midi drivers (on their website) and then Receive All (data) and then save the .M3all as "factory.M3all", then archive it and forget about it! That way if you ever want to start from a clean slate - or heaven forbid, sell the unit on - you can get it back to factory settings.

Enjoy your M3!

Most likely, yes. On the bottom of the boot screen you should see something like "OS version: 2.0.4".

See Operations Guide, page 206: "Installing the EXB-M256". Download Operations Guide here:

1. Unbox the M3.
2. Connect the power cable.
3. Connect the M3 to your mix or monitor system.
4. Turn on the M3 by pressing the power switch located on the rear panel.
(4.1. Check the OS version on the boot screen.)
5. Have fun! :D

without joking... LET THE M3 GET INTO THE ROOM TEMPERATURE!
Any electronical device needs to have the ambient temp to be save from moisture or any other damage that can appear from the cold/warm balance...

I got the keyboard today, put in the memory and did not stop playing until they called me for dinner (somehow I skipped breakfast and lunch as I was engrossed in the keyboard.

Its an amazing keyboard and more fun then the ES8 I just sold.
