With MOD-7, you have six sinewave oscillators under envelope control, along with velocity, pressure and all the other midi controllers. You'll have your additive synthesizer. If you want more harmonics, experiment with FM algorithms. |
That's far from proper additive synthesis as being done by, say, Camel Audio Alchemy or Kawai K5000. |

By definition, additive synthesis is nothing more than the summing of a series of sine waves under envelope control. Wendy Carlos used a mere four or five partials to create patches in the 80s and 90s, and that was most certainly additive synthesis. Yes, to be really potent and use FFT algorithms to analyze acoustic sounds and recreate or resynthesize harmonics, you need a lot of sine waves. But that's a nice extension of, not the definition of, additive synthesis. Besides, if you want a computer to do all the work for you, I think that's wimping out. _________________ PRAY FOR THIS PLANET!! |

I have to agree. I'd love to see an additive engine on the OASYS which is on a par with the K5 or K5000.
Its all about envelopes - preferably one for each partial, and at least 32 partials. _________________ Current Gear: Kronos 61, RADIAS-R, Volca Bass, ESX-1, microKorg, MS2000B, R3, Kaossilator Pro +, MiniKP, AX3000B, nanoKontrol, nanoPad MK II,

An additive EXi would be fun, I agree!
If I understand correctly, the K5 essentially had four oscillators, each with an additively-defined single-cycle waveform. Similar sounds may *sometimes* be possible with the MOD-7, using waveshaping to create additive harmonics.
The K5000 is a different story. _________________ Dan Phillips

judging from what I can read here, Kronos is already addictive enough. |

Does it get as aggressive?
Can you detune and stack the way you can on the nl3, and just basic overall sound?
Thanks! |
Are you nut..??..of course not, Kronos is Kronos...Nord is different history.
"Kronos" = Mercedes Benz S420
Nord Lead III= Bentley Full Edition |
