The MKXL can do a good job on the virtual analog synth parts, if layered in a multitrack recorder/DAW. The problem is that all of the videos you posted are not only using analog/VA synthesis. They are using samplers. So your MKXL can do the microkorg part that you hear, but the guy's left hand is playing a midi keyboard that sounds like it's playing a sampled choir, which the MKXL cannot do. And while you're calling the patch the VP300 (which I think you mean the VP330), notice that none of them are using a VP330. So if the MKXL is all that you have, it's going to be impossible to get the full layered Vangelis sound. The MKXL is a VA synth, and it can do those kinds of sounds very well.

Ok,
I have find 3 things:

1- The efects are really part of the sound. I must try my effects in order to get this sound: lot of c horus and reverb.
2- The LFO frequency is controlled by the BMP knob. Im trying to get a slower BMP but it seems that 20 bmp is the slower one. Any way to fix this?
3- CutOff and Resonance has a lot influence on the sound.

Im really very near to the sound im looking for. I also have a VST String Machine with that kind of sound to compare with.

Yes, the effects are particularly important for pads, like how Vangelis designs them. Each effect type on the MKXL has a lot of parameters that also greatly change the sound you hear. There's often a lot of tweaking of those parameters that you need to do to get a specific result. Sometimes too much of an effect can muddy up the sound, particularly delays and reverbs. That's why it's a good general rule to apply reverb last in the FX chain, and delay second to last (if reverb follows it). The MKXL doesn't have reverb, unfortunately, only delay. The R3 has twice as many FX, including reverb and ensemble, so it's significantly better than the MKXL for pads. The R3 has all the effects of the Radias, although the Radias is better yet for pads because it can layer 4 timbres with higher polyphony, so it can make use of unison and more effects in chain (2IFX per timbre + 1MFX = 9FX total vs. R3 with 5FX total vs. MKXL with 2FX total).

The LFO frequencies are being synchronized to the BPM because the BPM sync option is enabled. But you don't have to reduce the BPM to 20 in order to slow it down. The SyncNote parameter controls the fractional divisor of the LFO speed relative to the BPM. So you can unsync the LFO or use a different divisor. You can also change the intensity of how LFO2 influences OSC2 using a couple tricks. You can use a virtual patch to use the modwheel to control the OSC2 level, or you can set the filter mode to individual and use FILT 2 to control the cutoff of only the output of OSC2. This allows some interesting evolving pads where the mod wheel affects the amount of vibrato and the sound of OSC2 independently of OSC1. On the R3/Radias, FILT2 also has a COMB filter mode that is great for pads, but unfortunately the MKXL doesn't have that filter mode.

Some of these issues account for why I recommend buying the R3 instead of the MKXL, because it isn't obvious how much was cut out from the R3 that's useful. But we all can make the best of the hardware we have by learning these details so that you can exploit the synth structure as best you can.

I uploaded another 128 patches today. These were mostly from the MS2k with a 16 or so Radias Artists patches. More to come in a bit. I just started some more from the Radias.
Enjoy, Fran

Hi George,
All the patches you're looking for are there for the XL. You just need to check them out and save the ones you like..... All you have to do is click on a patch on Shannon's site and you can audition it.

Gentlemen: Thanks so much for all your hard work, I have down loaded some great stuff. One patch eludes me. I have a Boss RT-20 Rotary Speaker Sound pedal that would sound great if I could just get a B-3 organ patch to drive it. (clean without any up front motion effect) Can you help me please? thanks, Gary
