The Kronos will definitely be a classic keyboard in many years to come. Just like the others way back when; Prophet 5, Oberheims, Arps, M1, DX7, Oasys, and others...
Once you own it.... KEEP IT!!!

i think its a definite hit and a keyboard most will want for a year or 2.
I typically keep my boards for 3 or 4 years.
By then, its quite likely that Korg or another co will exceed the Kronos. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

there is minimal data upon which to make this assertion.. certainly no groundswell of user accolades (since its not out yet!)..
it LOOKS like it may become a classic, but its the start of a new type of instrument integrated workstations so in 5 years time who knows?.. _________________ Korg PA4X, Nord Stage 3, Virus Ti Polar, Novation Nova II, Yamaha S70XS, MPC-X, TC Helicon Voicelive Rack, KRK VXT8 monitors, 2012 LP Standard, 1999 Am. hardtail Strat, Fender DRRI, Orange AD30HTC, Marshall Vintage Modern, 2 cans and a piece of string... |

I doubt it'll be a classic like the M1, the DX7, the D50 and many other analog synths. The Kronos beautifully integrates what Korg has achieved into a single unit. But it doesn't break a new ground. |

this is a keyboard even, Roland, Yamaha, and, especially Kurzweil, can afford to buy and copy lol
In five years time Kurzweil will catch up??

Well... this is undoubtedly true, in a sense. Since the OASYS came out in 2005, it was updated with a few new synth engines, marvelous engines, but just a few, and half were ports of the Legacy Collection. For the Kronos, we have two new pianos using some modeling technology. KORG is likely to improve the Kronos as they have the OASYS, but what will have the same impact as MOD-7 for instance? Wind, brass and reed models? It will be interesting to see how the future shapes up.
But the Kronos will most likely be a desirable synth for many years to come. Sure, instruments will get more powerful. The next Kurz is likely going to turn a few heads, as billysynth says. But people are asking some crazy prices for DX5s, even though they're 20 year old dinosaurs, because they know that someone will want one bad enough to eventually bite. And they will, because they know that these are very powerful synths, even as old as they are. The same for SY77s, EX5s, JD-800s and so on. An excellent piano, organ model, FM synth and modeled vintage analogs run through great sounding effects will always be musically useful, especially with a sequencing and hard disc recording system on board. And even if better tools are on the market. _________________ PRAY FOR THIS PLANET!! |
