Just looking over the voice list documentation for the Kronos.

Overall, aside from the programs in the USER-A Bank and the first 40 or so sounds (Acoustic Piano and EPs) in INT-A, most everything else seems to be crossovers from the Oasys program library. (I confess, I didn't read EVERY entry!).

So I'm back to that old question that came up when Kronos was announced -- is there patch compatibility between the Oasys and the Kronos based on the engines that both workstations share? Would be nice to think there's a possibility of some new patch sets down the road! Anyone who has both boards willing to venture a test since there are no Kronos "Factory Default" files posted on the Korg support page? (If you're having too much fun with your new Kronos, I'll completely understand Very Happy )

The KRONOS can load OASYS PCG files; the OASYS cannot load KRONOS PCG files.

Hope this helps,

Dan

Thanks for the prompt reply Dan. Just trying to see if I can eke a little more value out of the ol' girl!

Is there a practical (i.e. "dumb-it-down-for-me") reason that the trip only works one way? Does an "identical" program on the Kronos contain more parameters that the Oasys simply can't interpret or is it something more complex and proprietary than you can divulge?

I'm thinking back on my experience from the Roland JV/XP/XV days, where backwards patch/bank compatibility was nary an issue (until the Fantom X), so I figured there was room for hope. At the risk of beating a dead horse, (or spoiling the celebratory atmosphere amongst all these new Kronos owners by mentioning Kronos' distant cousin), I'd like to better understand what the difference is.

The KRONOS has synthesis features that the OASYS doesn't, including 8 velocity layers in the HD-1, additional EXs banks, the SGX-1, and the EP-1. The KRONOS PCG file is changed to accommodate these new features. The OASYS can't read the new files.

Hope this helps,

Dan
