I'm wanting to have a second keyboard control only piano sounds on my Kronos, while I use the Kronos itself to play pads and strings. My experience of MIDI is minimal - I know this is pretty basic stuff, but it's still more than I've done before. Can anybody tell me what settings to use for a combo that does this? At the moment, when I play the second keyboard, it controls the whole combi. Thanks.

1. Change your MIDI Controller to transmit on a different channel (that isn't used by KRONOS' Global channel, and isn't used by KARMA in your combi. I usually go for 2 or 16)
2. Set the timbre that you want to control to that same channel

Typically (and deliberately), most timbres in a combi will be assigned to the Global channel or one of the MIDI channels that KARMA controls, so that it will be heard when you operate the keyboard or KARMA plays notes.

Its simply a number between 1 and 16. If a note comes in on that channel then any timbre (program/sound) set to that channel will respond to it.

That's working well but (as a great man used to say) there is just one more thing.

Is there a way to apply the damper pedal of the Kronos to that timbre, ie to the piano that is controlled by the second keyboard? It looks to me like it should work (what looks like the appropriate box is checked), but it doesn't. I am using the DS-1H, which doesn't work with my second board, but I wouldn't have thought that that would matter.

You need to use a sustain pedal with the 2nd keyboard.

Would it be possible to use AMS to use the Kronos damper with the second keyboard?

EDIT:
Hmm - maybe not; can't find a way to connect to a different MIDI channel.

If you set up a second keyboard to be the bottom manual of an organ, does that mean there is no possible way to use an expression pedal to handle both keyboards like a typical Hammond?

Depends what you're doing with the Expression Pedal.

IFX and MFX can be set to respond to a specific MIDI channel so you can get get level control of things by for example using a 'dummy' compressor where your foot pedal is set to control the Output Level only.

Thanks XTrade,
Hadn't thought of using an FX section to do that. Seams like there's always a work around. I've been studying the manual and checking out all the posts here, so that I can familiarize myself with the instrument before making the purchase (not that I won't purchase - just saving up a bit more cash).
