Just curious to know what DAW people are using with their kronos or are some using it as a stand alone?

Yeah i have been reading some Reaper reviews and it seems a really intuitive piece of software. Am considering this seriously. Think it will play very nicely with Kronos.

Sonar X1.

Would love to use my Kronos with it, but up to now
a) the USB Midi driver is still not working here
b) I would really like to know when the editor and VSTi for the Kronos might arrive.

Since the days of Trinity i never used Sequencer on a synth, always Cubase.
now i have NO CLUE about ANYTHING on a Korg Sequencer, Triton, M3 or
Kronos, its sad...the Seq is there like its not.

Any DAW should work equally well, since the interaction is just midi data and audio data.

Just to go against the grain....I use hardware DAW's (Tascam 2488 or SX-1). Keeping in the hardware realm really works great for me, and the workflow and composition style is great. I do use a computer....but predominantly to host soft synths, which I then record as any other hardware synth to my hardware DAWs. If I have any intensive editing to do, I will dump my audio tracks into Logic and work there....but that is rare. Once you get acquainted with editing and working on hardware, its very seamless. Kronos works GREAT this way, as you can turn on just these two units and roll with very little delay or any other inspiration killer. They sync great, and in fact, you can use Kronos 16 audio tracks at 24 bit in tandem with, say, the 2488's 24 tracks for a 40 tracks, which in my experience is more than enough tracks with no bouncing, thus addressing another Software DAW benefit of 'unlimited tracks". But for me, 40 is plenty, and in the rare event its not...bounce in 24 bit....or use your laptop to expand.

This doesn't directly address Midi....I like the Kronos sequencer.....alas I like the Fantom G sequencer better, and the SX-1 and Emu Command Station. Hardware sequencers are a passion of mine....always looking for the "best"....but it all depends on how you compose. I try to compose by ear, rather than "programming a song". If I mess up....I do another take. If I need to adjust CC curves, etc, I ride a fader in real time. For me....its all about the flow.

Have been using Sonar X1 with my Kronos 73 and experienced no issues using the MIDI-via-USB interface. It took some experimenting to discover that the Kronos audio interface via USB required Sonar to use the MME audio driver mode. Once I worked through that problem, I've been able to record directly into Sonar using the USB interface.
I created an INS file from the PDF voice name lists and everything has been working properly. Still haven't written the dump request macros, but I've been having too much fun exploring the Kronos.

Which version of sonar are you using.
I have looked at essentials and producer though producer is pretty expensive.

Answer to Pragmatist:
I use the Studio version of Sonar. The Producer version includes many features that are of little use to me, since I do mostly MIDI work for live playback. If you plan to do extensive recording and need a lot of effects processing, then the Producer version might be a better choice. Since I rely on my Korgs rather than soft synths, the extra features of Producer are not worth the bucks to me. The Cakewalk website has a good comparison of the various versions.

No problems with Logic 9, but took some time to set up an environment for patch names/bank changes... although if I want to record the Kronos via USB audio, I have to switch from using the Alesis Mixer audio driver (can't create an aggregate device, for some reason), which means I can't monitor all the other tracks.

For live performances I sequence with Ableton Live. For each song, it makes all the settings on all of my keyboards, MIDI timing, streams tracks, etc...

Just wondering? When you create the aggregate, the usb usually shows up on channel 9/10 or 11/12. Have you checked this out when selecting your outputs?
