|

Does the KRONOS come with any synth drum programs?
If not, what do you think the best engine would be to program 808/909 style toms, hats, etc? (AL-1 vs MS20 vs Poly vs MOD-7).
Samples are nice, but the ability to modulate percussive synth sounds would be better.
Any thoughts?
Thanks! _________________ ___________________

Check out in bank U-A, you have some kits named 808 and 909 and various new kits from ROM expansion 2 _________________ Korg Kronos 61

Hi Teh Mick,
I noticed the sample-based 808/909 drum kits, but I am really looking for a synthesized option that can me modulated and tweaked much further than the sample kits.
I am OK with dedicating an entire MIDI track to a single drum instruments, so long as it is highly tweak-able. Are any of the VAs good for percussive sounds?
Thanks for the insight _________________ ___________________

Look for the analog engines that have a noise generator. AL-1 comes to mind and also you can use the HD-1 if the starting waveforms are close. Set the envelopes to have a fast attack, zero or close to zero sustain, then adjust the decay and release to your liking. You should be abe to get some very analog
sounding drum sounds. Don't forget that the Mod-7 can also load DX7 patches, so there were quite a few syndrum types of programs and other percussive sounds there too. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

I found the MOD-7 to be ideal for synthesizing drum sounds, actually. The many parallel oscillators (that can be sine waves) with their own EGs, a noise source, and a couple filters. This is an architecture not dissimilar to the structures in old drum machines. See UF117 DonkaDrums for an example of using it for this purpose. _________________ ________________________________
