I've been using the Kronos MIDI interface to do some recording in Sonar X1 and have discovered an odd behavior. Periodically, for no apparent reason, a Controller 80 (switch one) is inserted into the track being recorded. I'm certain that I did not touch the switch. This does not happen if I switch MIDI interfaces and use the ports on my MCUPro.

I've also noticed that occasionally when I do use one of the switches to alter the program (e.g. timp strike to roll); not only is a controller event recorded but also a sysex event. Is the sysex event really necessary? Triggering a controller shouldn't be a sysex event, should it?

Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

Switch on/off messages will be sent simultaneously with Program Change messages, if the saved state of the switch causes it to turn on or off. Could that be what you're seeing?

I'm not sure why switching interfaces would make a difference, but perhaps the event filtering is acting differently (or maybe it's just a red herring).

This is normal. Switches always send sysex; if they are assigned to a controller (80, 81, 65) then they send the controller as well.

Hope this helps,

Dan

Thanks for the information. That clears up a number of issues.
