I am seriously considering getting the PA3x. Although to save money, a PA2x or PA800 is in consideration. My main questions are:

1. What is the difference between Guitar Mode 2 versus the original.
2. Can the PA3x or the PA2x and PA800 be setup in a guitar mode similar to the Roland G-70. In this mode, you can strum and pluck strings at will.

Please see the video from Ed Diaz as an example:

Hoping someone can help me on this. Thanks!

What I do know about the Korg arrangers from the instructions, is that you can program strums in Guitar mode. There, you can create strum rhythms and set them in a style. But in the guitar mode, only one chord is available. Once the style is created, then you can change the chords but it will always be the same strum (4 variations of course, if you program).

But you don't have the freedom to strum ad lib.
If you thought the G-70 was cool, the funny thing is that you can do it on KRONOS using Karma. Check out at www.karma-labs.com. Look at video MPL3: GE Examples. Karma is amazing.

Frustrating that this option is not available in the arrangers! It's a great tool to create styles but there is a learning curve.

You are NOT flexible with Guitar mode in live performance . Like you said, you can pre-program it and save it as part of the style , and then use it.

All thoese thingis that did a man with G70 you can do with PA3X and PA2x-800 too ... on PA3X you can do more , you can play SOLO !!! PA3X guitar mode 2 has sections - CHORDS , Arpeggios , Struming , section for SOLOING and RX section !!! BUT-all thoese you can do in STYLE REC MODE to add all you played things to you STYLE ....

Lika,

I did not say that the G-70 was better. Clearly, the PA3 is a superior instrument. In fact the G-70 is no longer listed as an active product for Roland. It is now classified as a legacy product. It was released in 2006 I believe.

However, the PA3 cannot do what the G-70 does in terms of the guitar mode. I did READ the MANUAL (Advance Edit).

Yes, you can create strums, arpeggios, guitar noises etc. In fact, the strumming features are more advanced than the G-70. However, you need to store them in styles. You do not have the chord-arpeggio-strum section.

Unless maybe I am misinterpreting the manual. On page 12, there is a section outlined on the keyboard called the "pattern" section. Not sure I understand that.

Anyway, this is not a factor against getting this great machine. Not being a guitar player, I would simply like the flexibility to shape/strum chords to create songs without having to program them first.

Or have someone play it for me on a real guitar!!

Hi frankp
I have nothing with Roland g70 or soo . but because I use chord changes with Guitar (pa2x) and Guitar 2 (pa3x) MODE will say - page 15 of PDF Pa3X Advanced Edit Manual v100 (English) ....

Choosing a Key/Chord for Intro 1 and Ending 1

The pattern is recorded in the key indicated by the Key/Chord
pair of parameters. However, this parameter is only used for
playback by the Intro 1 and Ending 1 Style Elements. All other
Style Elements will be played back according to the recognized
chord.
With Intro 1 and Ending 1 (both Chord Variation 1 and 2) you
can also prefer to enter a chord progression, to be played on the
lowest MIDI octave (C-1 ~ B-1). Chord types are inserted by
using velocity values, as shown in the following table:

and.
I want Guitar Mode just in my STYLES .... and it is just my opinion , for me ... SmileSmileSmile

Hi Frank,
one major difference I found,
Guitar Mode has it's own setting "Gtr" which affects that particular instrument track, thruoghout the whole style
ie if you set instrument 5 to "Gtr" mode, you can only record Guitar Mode notes on instrument 5, in the variations, fills, Intro's & Endings.

In Guitar Mode 2, there is an actual normal midi note section between C3 & B6 ( Ithink) where you can record normal midi notes, & /or , as well as Guitar Mode notes.
Basically gives a lot more flexibility.
