Hi all

Just wanted to feedback my findings (so far) regarding John Smies' "2012 pa800pa2x resources" which can be found here:- http://pasounds.intropagina.nl/page-1-2012-pa800pa2x-resources.html

If you want a quick opinion:-
"AWESOME"
"WORTH EVERY CENT AND A WHOLE LOT MORE"

OK - why?
I loaded up John's resources and SET and started trying out the PERFORMANCES first of all. John has done an outstanding job here - some absolutely fantastic "set-ups" by just leaving the PERFORMANCES "Style" button on and working through every one. I must admit that there is so much to try even beyond just the PERFORMANCES that I haven't got through it all as yet.
John has put in hours and hours of work and produced a high quality result.
After going through the PERFORMANCES, I started through the STYLES - by the way I am talking about the factory style locations as well as USER and FAVORITES. I saw many familiar STYLE names there like "Meditation Bossa" and thought ......ok, I know that one so I'll move on to the next....
BUT NO!!! So many of these styles have been enhanced to such a degree that they are effectively "new" - ALSO, John has provided several NEW styles too. (AND SOUNDS!!!) - also some classic i3 styles brilliantly refurbished.

I cannot recommend his work more strongly. He requests a mere donation (around Euros25 - USD35) - you would only get 3 mediocre Yamaha styles for that. THIS IS AWESOME VALUE.
So, just in case you are wondering - I have no association with John other than through these forums.
He doesn't know that I am writing this (so I hope he doesn't mind!!!).

I think he said a while ago that this might make you feel like you have upgraded your PA800/PA2X - he is correct in my honest opinion.

Congratulations John and thank you for enabling us to enjoy and share your work.

Pete Very Happy

Thanks Pete for your kind words as regards my new PA 2012 Resources. If anyone wants demos which you would be able to provide please feel free to do so, I'd be honoured !

At the same time I should stress that you are getting quite an array of performances (320)
and extra styles ( well over 400) which of course cannot all be to your liking. Rather imagine yourselves shopping in the candy store !!!!!!

regards,
John Smies

My pleasure John and that was purely my straight and honest opinion.

What in particular, do you want to hear?
I'll put some MP3s together soon.

Cheers

Hello BB

First you sent me two or three emails to say you did not get the files, turned out you did though. Yesterday I replied to your problem by sending you an email replying to your request for help in detail. Please check your post more carefully in future before reacting like this.
I have mailed you about possible causes and also emphasized the fact that you are absolutely the only one to encouter any of the problems you mentioned.Which does not mean I would not be willing to assist you in solving those in as far as it is within my power to do so.

I will send you the email again forthwith.

greetings,
John Smies

Hello,
My name is Dario and I have the Korg PA800. I have just been sampling John’s new 2012 Resources and would like to share my views with you.

I have been listening to and playing with performances that centre round “guitar, voices, sax, accordion, etc.” as they are the sounds that I am most interested in, obviously in connection with the accompanying styles. I must say that our friend John has added 50% to the realism and incisiveness of these sounds, accompanied by improved effect settings for each and every sound which makes them more sonorous and brighter to the ear. I had great fun in playing the Dire Straits
Styles which, with the right-hand guitar sounded like the song itself.

The organs too have been improved and tweaked to a level which is both pleasing to the ear and realistic. One other style that I could not stop playing was the one referring to Stevie Wonder’s
“Isn’t she Lovely “. Just give it a go ! If you can play it or know the chords tell me that it does not sound as if you are listening to the original recording…

So for a mere 25 euros which I gladly transferred to John for an undertaking that must have cost him quite a lot of time, my advice ? Give it a try as you won’t regret it, having enriched and improved your great and “old “ PA arranger…..
Applause

Pete,
Do you have the EXB 256 memory on your PA2X? I cannot afford it so wonder how the version for the not exoanded PA2X works. I am really interested to try John's new resources after your review, I can spend 25 Euros, I hope that for standard boards the results will be good enough.
Regards, Simone

Simone,

I can answer that question for Pete (he can of course always confirm it) but the sample extension board does not matter. My programming relies on the internal samples only ......So no one, either with PA800 or PA2X ,has to worry about the size of their sample memory in order to profit fully by my 2012 Resources.

regards,
John Smies

No I just have the standard RAM - I used to have the 256MB card but took it out to use in my M3.

Yes, John's excellent work loads perfectly on my PA2XPro with room to spare!!!

Cheers

I have just received John's resources and installed into the PA2X (the whole bkf file). It worked fine except for the damper pedal, I had to invert its polarity and now it's great. Well I had just enough time to try a couple of performances and they are powerful. Very high volumes but lovely sounds and very inspiring styles. I'm in love with a Raggae style really fun.
I'll come back when I have more comments to post, but thanks to John for his awesome work.
