Does anyone know whether there's a function in OASYS to 'latch' pads so that any chords assigned to them can be sustained or is this a function that can only be achieved with a foot pedal?

Thanks

No, you would need to use a sustain pedal to hold a Pad, or you could trigger them using a Multi Function Pedal.

Then again, I wonder could somthing be done using KARMA....hmmmm thinking....

Thanks Sharp. What I have is a chord sequence assigned to 6 pads which are triggered at various intervals in the sequence. I can trigger each pad manually, but don't want to continue holding the pad until the next change. I'm sure I've seen this done on a video clip somewhere but I can't find any references in any of the manuals.

Thanks again.

Hi,

you can do that if you
- set the max number of voices (timbre tab and then osc tab) in the combi to lets say 4 or five for the sound that is assigned to the pads
- set a long release time in the used timbre/sound or enable the hold button in program mode for the sound (tab basics/vector >>>> keyzone), so that the sound sustaines after triggering

When you trigger the next pad, it cuts off the former because of the voice number limitation no matter when the chord change comes. Only thing is that all chords must have the same numer of voices otherwise the former pads sounds on if the next pad uses not all voices.

hope that helps. I put it also in the tricks topic above.

I'm pretty sure in the KARMA Workstation there is a GE that when in 'latch' mode will sustain a chord until you hit the next one.
I might be wrong. If it is there then I'd hope that it is also in the OASYS.

Otherwise, yes, a sustain pedal would be the normal way to do this.

Yes, OASYS has LATCH mode too.
I’m wondering though if KARMA is activated, can you get it to not play any notes outside of just holding the Pad.

There is a GE that can actually be Setup to do this, it is called Band On/off
i think but i am not sure, i forgot. It works same as the MEMORY ON on the
Arranger or Lower Hold, however it is called. The GE is in Kronos and M3
so i guess it should be in O too. It does exactly what you want and no pedal
need it for it, it can be on Pads or Keys, Velocity Controlled or Fixed.
You might've seen it in my videos... http://www.youtube.com/user/BasariStudios?feature=mhee

Actually changed my mind, i will later on or next day or so try to make a
small video and explain in video what you exactly have to do. Basically
all you do is you sellect the GE as any other, assign a sound to it and RUN
with LATCH ON...you will have to turn all switches OFF for that GE in every
scene, since it is a GE that Bend Pitch on every chord movement...thats a
little tip if you figure it out before i explain...or i'll try to explain better only
by txt but not next to my keyboards now to see the exact GE name and category.
James is familiar with my work so he probably knows that we need this kind
of GE for certain types of music where we have constant PAD/STRINGS
playing in the background same as on arranger. Then i delved deeper into
it and with Stephen's help we got that. Then later on i even edited the GE
to my own liking with Stephens KARMA Software which can change anything.

Thanks guys, I realise the pedal is the obvious choice but if possible I'd like to explore the other options suggested. Thanks also Nedim for the offer of a video clip.

Icee, since i am not master at Video stuff i will explain like this and i think
it will be better and easier for you, you can copy the TXT and then keep it.
The explanation i will give is me assuming you already know how to at least
do basic stuff which is sellecting a program, then adding a KARMA GE to it
and then modify the same GE.

1. Sellect a Patch in Program Mode, in this case Analog Strings (i dont know
the location in the O but you will find them).
2. Turn KARMA ON and LATCH ON, hit KARMA on the screen and first page
GE Setup/KeyZones.
3. It will be only one Module and thats Module A, look for a GE called
exactly ''RT Real-Time Bend'' browse by category and it will be in the
Real-Time Bank of GEs...sellect it.
4. Now, play some chords, you will see it works perfect but...you will hear
bending when changing chords.
5. Hit EXIT and then KARMA GE Screen, you will see the top of switches in
there, Bend Of/On, FX/Ctrl. Env Off/ON and FX Ctrl Env. TimeScale...
those are the only ones that are ON, turn them all OFF...SAVE!

Thats all you have to do, then this thing can be recreated in Comb or
Program with any Sound.

Hope it helps.

Edit: The GE will be located towards the end of all GEs, somewhere over
2000 its probably few GEs (less then 10) at the end of GE list.

Nedim's response was spot-on, using the KARMA 'route' works fine in Program Mode but I can't get it working in Combi. I've tried all of the KARMA modules, A,B,C,D but can't replicate the Latch/Sustain function that works perfectly for Programs.
Could anyone with an OASYS give it a try please and let me know, maybe it's only ever going to work in Program mode.

Thanks
Ice

Ivor, at this stage i dont understand the question, what exactly is happening?
By Latch you mean the PAD is not ON non stop or something else?
Is your LATCH Button On? What happens to the Pad when you hit Chords
with the Latch Button on?

Here are two references for previous threads related to something similar at Karma Lab forum that could help with some ideas...

http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7160&highlight=latch

http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7259&highlight=latch

Hope this helps.

Edited: please note at the end of the first thread the link to a tutorial done by Stephen Kay for auto-sustain notes in Oasys.

Nedim, I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear but the method you suggest for working with Programs is fine. When a pad is pressed the timbre sounds even after the pad is released and sustains until the next pad is pressed. Unfortunately this doesn't happen with Combi's. The pad will only activate the timbre while it is being held, as soon as it is released the timbre stops.
I hope this makes it clearer and a solution can be found. I've checked the links on the previous thread and they tend to suggest using a pedal which is what I really wanted to avoid.
Thanks
Ice

Hi Ivor, you dont need a Pedal for that at all...here it sounds to me like you
are missing something somewhere, as i said i dont know how much you know
about setting Combis. In Combi Mode not its should but IT HAS! to work exactly
as in Progra Mode. Few Questions:
1. Do you have KARMA and LATCH ON?
2. Is the Module you are using in RUN...running?
3. Is the Patch you are using actually a long patch?

Recheck the Combi again step by step.
