thinking about getting a Korg padKontrol but have a question

Recently I started off with a "Novation Launchpad", but I had a problem with Ableton Live. I couldnt seem to figure out the recording, and I was having issues with the midi mode after i reinstalled Ableton the 2nd time.
I saw that the "Korg padKontrol" can be used with Ableton, which im trying to avoid. Is there an easier program I can use with the padKontrol? Or am I stuck with the option of just using ableton live? According to some youtube videos, it seems like there are other programs I can use, but I wanted to double check before I buy it. I would apprieciate some helpful feedback!
