I know I am just missing this easy thing somehow but I've searched and tossed in the towel.

Here is the problem. First I bring up a progam lets say mallet. Then I record it on track 1. Then I want to add a pipe organ and record on track 2. So I hit the little track two button and try to change the program to the pipe organ, but it only gives me the mallet settings. So I change the settings and the sequencer only plays sort of a pipe organ mixture with mallet. I want a complete separate instrument. So if I want an entire orchestra recording each instrument to a track, how is this done ?!

I know this is a really dumb question, but I am stumped. Thanks in advance.
Mike

The answer is midi channels.

You want mallet on track 1
You want pipe organ on track 2

In Seq mode, go to 'Track Edit'. You will see all the tracks have midi channels. If they are all set to channel 1 or GCH (general) than you can only use the sound you have in track 1.

So simply change track 2 to midi channel 2, go back to the Play/REC page and make sure you have track 2 selected (just under the song title bit).

Then you're good to go Smile

So basically, if you want a different sound, playing a different track, you need to give it a different midi channel.

As an exercise you should import a combi and you will see that the 4 or 5 sounds in that combi are assigned the same midi channel. So whatever you record/play into any of those sounds will play on that midi channel/track. Select a new midi channel with a new sound and you get your different track.

Hope that helps!

PS welcome to KF Smile

Sorry for the delay. Thanks that did the trick. I admit I wouldn't have figured it out without the help.
Now to just figure out how to save it !!

Seriously, that was a great help.
Thank you.

I am trying to import the combi programs as you suggested and I am able to record them with the sequencer now. But is it possible to to have one combi on one track and another combi on another track. Whenever I try to do this, I either lose the first combi or get some weird combination of them.

hmmm

You cannot copy more than one Combi into the sequencer at a time. (midi) But there is a way of doing this by means of audio recording.
Here's a clip that Mike Conway posted a while ago you may find helpful.

Depending on the number of parts in the combi, I would think you might be able to copy more than one into a sequence recording. Combis are made up of progs and if you don't go over the number of tracks needed you might be okay.
Also if you luck at the midi channels used in each combi you will find that not all of the progs are on midi channel 1.
I think it depends on whether or not you are using Karma in you sequence. You might only need a few of the operating progs in a given combi. Remember also that you will very quickly use up you effects limit.
I could also be totally wrong on this. I've never tried it but I do know that when you are importing a sound you are asked whether your source is a combi or prog.
