Out of curiosity I tried to install the OCX Octane 250Gb 6G, which I use on my Mac for Logic project files. Backed up the drive, zeroed everything and installed it into the Kronos.

No go... started to format then hung up.

Well, if it's of any interest, I'm another of the guys who installed a 120GB Intel 320. I went for reliability there. The installation went perfectly and the boot time is now 5 seconds longer (not a big deal). Only problem is reinstalling all the extension and trying to remember all the changes you made. I'm still picking them up after a few weeks.

I am one of the guys that installed the 120 Gb in December. Like I said then, SATA III didn't work for me (maybe other brands would work).
The 120Gb SATA II that I installed in December works perfectly, I didn't have ANY crashes yet. The story with that Sina guy sounds phony, don't waiste your money until the story is 100% confirmed.

BTW, can't wait for the freaking EDITOR to be released, it kind of screwed my schedule in the last year just waiting for it. Now that they made us wait for it, it better be good!

Hi Greg

Mine is a K61. The installation didn't take long. Mechanically you take out all the screws on the base plate except those holding the front rail. The drive is held between two brackets one of which holds the fan. It's easier if you remove the whole bracket assembly which is only held in by two screws. It's obvious what to do after that. The longest part was reinstalling the system from the DVDs. I thought it would never end! It will ask you to reauthorize. You need to get the authorisation from the Kronos website. Then you're up and running.

As to the extensions (should have been plural), I was referring to the extra libraries and stuff that I had previously installed. I had also set some global parameters and changed a combi or two so I had to do that as well. Owing to memory failure on my part I couldn't remember all the changes so I keep running into things I should have done. I think I've got it all OK now.

I've got the 73 key Kronos, and I just bought a new OCZ "Petrol" 128GB SSD drive that I'm going to attempt to install in it.

(I picked this one up at my local Micro Center store for $109.99 after a $30 mail in rebate they had going on it -- so pretty inexpensive for a 128GB SSD.)

It says it's SATA III, but with "SATA 2 backwards compatibility", and uses the Indilinx chipset on it (which is a different one than the more commonly seen "Sandforce" chipsets, or the proprietary Intel one they use on their own SSD drives).

I'll let everyone know if this one is successful or not. (I agree that it would be really helpful to put together some kind of list of the makes/models of SSD drives verified to work properly and maybe sticky it in these forums?)

Hi Greg

First of all write down your public ID. You can find it in Global mode on the Options Info page. Then save any additional files to a flash drive. Next you need a suitable DVD drive. Mine is an Asus model no SDRW-08D2S-U. It is self powered but has two cables which I can plug into both USB ports. It says 2A but I think it only uses that much current when it's writing a CD or DVD. If you forget to put the first DVD in before it's powered down, you can always open the drawer with a paper clip. The DVD has to be in the drive when you power up the Kronos. You'll get instructions on the display. The first thing it will ask is whether you want to format. Yes, of course. Doesn't take long. Then you wait ages while it loads the system. Then it wants the reauthorization. If you've registered with Korg, just go to the Kronos page and log in. Right there will be the link to download the reauthorization code. Write it to a flash drive, stick it in the Kronos, hit the key and away you go. If you haven't registered, you'll need that public ID. It doesn't change with the new SSD or OS.

Hrmn..... very interesting.

I installed the OCZ Petrol 128GB SSD in my Kronos last night, and was able to successfully install the OS 1.06 from my external USB DVD driver. Everything seemed to be working fine.

Then I proceeded to apply the 1.50 update from a memory stick, and after that reported success and prompted me to restart the Kronos? It refused to boot up past a certain point, with the error message telling me to reinstall the OS!

Did all of you guys who got a upgraded SSD working do the 1.50 OS update, or are some of you still at 1.06??

Quick update.... Went through the exact same procedure a second time, reformatting the drive and doing the full 1.06 install, followed by the 1.50 update from the USB stick and THIS time, it worked!

Makes me wonder how reliable the data writing is on this thing ... but we'll give it a try for a while and see how it turns out.

BTW, I looked up the data sheets for the original Toshiba 30GB SSD that I removed from the Kronos. Can't see anything special about it that would make it a better or more reliable unit for the application than other SSDs?

Just installed an Intel 320series 2,5" SSD 120 GB (SATA 300, SSDSA2BW120G301, 7mm, read / write: 270 / 130 MB/s). Old drive kept in place, new one added (still hoping that Korg will support both drives soon again as in the orginal OS: that could mean having a backup SSD with the most important stuff on board just in case).

Up to now the install went absolutely smooth, without any problems.
Installed 1.06, then 1.5. Boot time is about the same as before (2:20 with a clean OS 1.5). I will keep you informed if I should meet any problems.

I chose a drive with a newer controller, which has a reputation of being very reliable (an early problem with hot swapping doesn't concern a fixed drive, and Intel has solved the issue meanwhile anyway), over any experiments with faster loading times.

Good feeling to look around among library stuff without any storage limits in sight anytime soon! Cool

i've successfully installed Kinigston 128GB SSD V+ 100 (SATA II) on my K61. OS installation went very smooth. Had to download the re-auth key from korg.com.

Does anyone know how to reformat the 30GB SSD from the computer? SSD is not accessible from the computer.

I'm reformatting using the Kronos but its taking a very long time...dont think its doing anything.
