This week I am dedicating time to set up organ programs for live performances. In doing so I have found the need to get a more realistic rotary speaker effect and overall amplification sound. To my taste the Korg programs are too distorted and are "pumped up" too much.
As a starting point, I took the 20 best presets and averaged their values. From there I did some tweaking; but after a while everything started to sound the same and not good enough.
Below are the values I have settled on (for now). I still find the horn is too quick in every respect (no matter what I do) and the rotor better, but it seems takes forever to get to slow speed after spin down (no matter what I do). The values are essentially sound affecting values, as controller values depend on what each player uses in their rig.
I would sincerely appreciate any opinions, recommendations or comments that might help get a better sound. My goal is to emulate an old 122 or 147.
BASIC:
Mode: EX - use this only because of added control functionality
Wheel: Vintage
Drawbar level: Mellow
Overtone: 10
Leakage: 1
Noise: 0
Gate: Clean
Key-on click: 20
Key-off click: 10
Expression min: 30
Expression max: 75
Perc. level: Loud
Loud level: 75 for 2nd harmonic 60 for 3rd harmonic
Decay: Fast (usually)
AMP:
Type: 1
Gain: 0 (have ribbon controller to add distortion set at value 25
I rarely use distortion because it does not sound real)
EQ: I use the amp modeling and the EQ FXs.
Treble +1
Mid +1
Bass -1

Thank you for sharing these settings, I will try them this evening. I too am creating my "go-to" hammond patch to include in my combis for live use and I'm not totally satisfied with my results.
I am replacing my trusty old Voce V5 running thru an H&K rotosphere. Certainly not state of the art! - but the tube in the rotosphere definitely adds a convincing overdrive I have not duplicated in the Kronos. I think I'll eventually get a Ventilator (once I've recovered from the kronos purchase!) and be done with it |

If so, get a Ventilator. You won't be sorry. |

I have created 12 patches; 2nd and 3rd harmonic percussions with each of the 3 chorus and 3 vibratos. This should give you all of the combinations needed to emulate a B3 live in tone adjust mode. I hope not to have to resort to a Ventilator. The Kronos rotary speaker emulator has many more adjustable parameters as compared to a Ventilator; but in the end its the sound that counts. I did not mention this is the original post, but I am using a GrooveTubes Spacestation SRX Mark2, which was designed to be, built for and is an excellent amp for leslie simulations.
Let me know what you come up with; perhaps through collaboration we can come up with something beneficial to all. _________________ JP

Daniel Geist here in Germany has worked out an alternative routing, avoiding the CX3 effects with their harsh, digital and completely unrealtsic distortion.
I fould his routing quite interesting. You find it on Korgpatches.com (shortcut DG before his sounds). Could you have a look at it and give some feedback?
This just is a possible momentary alternative and does not solve the internal CX3 engine/effects problems. I completely agree with you: the engine is fine, with many parameters, but it needs a basic overhaul concerning Leslie and Amp Sim. Perhaps percussion and vibrato also are worth a second look. It is great already that Vibrato received more parameters in the Kronos update of CX3.
I'm glad that you share your observations: thank you very much! _________________ Kronos 73 - Rhodes 73 Mk I - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - KKorg Synth - Access Virus TI Keyboard |

Try these suggested defaults, based on measurements:
* Horn
Fast: 84 Accel: 90 Start Accel: 60 Distance: 50
Slow: 9 Decel: 80 Stop: 55 Spread: 60
* Rotor
Fast: 80 Accel: 45 Start Accel: 40 Distance: 40
Slow: 8 Decel: 50 Stop: 45 Spread: 50
Horn/Rotor Balance: 50

Dan: when you say measurements you mean measurements do by Korg using a real rotary speaker (L*&#*e? _________________ JP
