1. If you've used a Mac to copy the files onto a USB device, it's possible that a file named "._EXs12.exsins" might have been created, in addition to EXs12.exsins. The first file won't normally be visible on the Mac, but both will show up on the KRONOS. Make sure that you're selecting the file "EXs12.exsins" without the leading "._".
2. The names of all of the installer files are listed in the EXs12 manual. When you look at the USB stick, are all of those files there with the exact same names, including suffixes?

Hi Dan,
Yes, I am aware of that. I wish Mac wouldn't write these extra files on the USB devices. It's a pain in the ass when transferring to other non-Mac equipment. In any case, I went with another USB stick (Kodak 8 G). I ignored the mirror files, went right to the appropriate exins file (as I did before), and this time the installation took. The Austrian Grand is now authorized and in place.
Thanks for your ongoing support. _________________ Cheers,

I'm also having hard time to install this EXs
Until now, I've been able to install EXs11 & EXs13 but this one just can't be installed. I get that error message EXSinstall exsins file error. So far:
- Tried with 3 different USB, this from within an EXs12 directory and from root directory. Also with FAT16 & FAT32, formatted from within Kronos and from the PC. I've also extracted all files "directly" to USB and copy extracted files from my PC to the USB.
- Tried copying the files to the internal SSD and installing from there.
- Downgrading to 1.5.0 which BTW has different message boxes (more nice indeed, maybe that procedure or at least the UI got screwed on 1.6.0)
No success. What can be happening?
I can provide some additional remarks:
- I use a PC with Windows 7 and the files get copied correctly.
- Sometimes, when Kronos refuses the EXs, it will also corrupt the file S012 and instead of the plain text it has, I'll get random bytes. Of course, I've checked that the S012 file is perfect on the PC: I get plain text there, Kronos reads the file and corrupts it.
- Once the subdirectory Manuals got totally corrupted after Kronos refused to install. _________________ Current gear: Korg Kronos 88, Access Virus TI2 Polar DarkStar Limited Edition, Roland MV-8800 |

It won't install from the internal HD, so forget that.
From the USB stick, it should though. So long as there is a folder called EXs12 at the root level of the USB stick and that the folder contains the installation files. The USB stick must be formated as FAT32. The manual says FAT16 is OK, but when running tests, we found that FAT32 worked, FAT16 didn't.
Apart from that, I installed successfully EXs10 to EXs13 using a USB key, running OS 1.6. So it's not a problem with the OS.
Finally, if it fails via USB, you could always burn a DVD with EXs12 (again, folder EXs12 at the root level). We've run tests and this works well too, so long as you have a compatible USB drive. _________________

Hi all,
We've now figured out the source of the problem, and a simple workaround.
The installer will fail if there is a space in the name of any enclosing directory, up to the root of the disk. As provided from the Korg site, there shouldn't be - but if for some reason you had tried the download more than once, expansion of the zip might result in a name with a space, such as "EXs11 2."
Renaming the folder so that it does not include a space will avoid the problem, and allow the install to proceed normally. You rename the folder either on your computer, or on the KRONOS (from the Disk Utility page).
I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
