Anyone have any experience with connecting USB CD/DVD drives to Korg equipment? ( I might need to post this in the M3 forum, it supported CD/DVD drives too ) Looking for a small compact CD/DVD Burner to have in the gig bag for the Kronos.

I haven't found a compatibility list posted by Korg.

As long as its class compliant it should work, and I wouldn't want to go above 8x for writing anyway as you might get to many errors.

Any updates on this topic in the last year?

I want to get an emergency restore DVD drive for my Kronos, and am wondering which one to get.

Is there any list of proven-compatible external DVD drives?

My CD drive is an Asus SDRW-08D2S-U and the HDD is a Seagate 9SD2A4-500. Both USB powered and both work flawlessly. I used the CD drive (actually a DVD writer) to install the system after installing a 120GB SSD with no problems.

I noticed on another thread a unit that was said to work.
I went out and bought an LG Portable Super Multi Drive GP10NB20
It DOES NOT WORK.
Repeat, do not get this unit.
The drive with the recovery DVD was recognized by the unit, but when I started to do the reinstall, Kronos told me the unit didn't have enough power.
There was only a few external DVD drives at my local Best Buy.
None of them had an external power source, they were all USB powered.
I'm mail ordering one with an external power supply.

I bought the Samsung SE-208 that was on sale at NewEgg. It does work.

I verified that it mounted the factory disc, and displayed the files. I did not try to burn a disc yet.

Also, it requires plugging into both USB ports to get enough power. I don't know if that's a sloppy design, or a fundamental issue with USB. It doesn't matter that much to me because this is just for "emergencies".

(Although I've been surprised how many times I used the CD in my Triton Studio over the years...)

Sony DW-G121A user here....

Works perfectly, even with AKAI Disks.

Regards
Sharp.

I presume most 3.5 units fitted within an external enclosure and having their own power supply would work.

What's more interesting is to know which USB slim unit with no power but the Kronos USB port works.

I also have the LG Model GP10NB20 and though it is recognized after attaching the drive to a booted up Kronos, it does not work when trying to do a re-install (booting up the Kronos with the drive plugged in).

Samsung SE-208AB
No need for second usb lead or external power here, just downgraded from 1.6 to 1.5 with it, with 1.06 discs.
There against, the S048B doesn't work!

It may work for you, and I'm happy for you.
It was your post in another topic that made me go out and buy it.
But I'll say it again.
For me, it did not work.

Just picked up a new LG GP08 LU10. It's the slim portable type your talking about. It seems to be working perfectly off only the Kronos USB port. No external power needed. I even loaded a AKAI disk.

Regards
Sharp.
