I still wonder why Korg doesn't respect their customers and give them at least some minor OS upgrades. There are some things the easily could give us...

More user banks (the solution for Kronos should work in M3 as well)
More controller/midi maps for the "External" mode

I would be more than happy if Korg also made some more sound banks. Either for free or for sale.

I won't buy any more workstations from Korg until they prove some better support for their products. I was thinking of buying a Kronos but feeling disappointed with the M3 I don't want to buy a new Korg until they prove they care about the customers.

I know I have said this before but just look at Access Virus. I bought my Virus in 2006 and they still give me OS updates and sound banks. I don't expect that everything should be given away for free but that's exactly what Access does.

Also Kurzweil keep developing OS for the PC3 series although that product was released many years ago. Also it wasn't that long ago they updated the OS for the K2600 series. That keyboard was released in the early 2000's.

Common Korg... You can do it !

also consider that Access and Korg are really different companies.
Access does 1 product, the virus, different layouts (Snow, Polar, 61-keys) but same software. korg R&D have to develop and maintain much more products.

anyway seems that after the first 2 years, korg product won't receive any new developments

Korg R&D are probably much bigger than Access or Kurzweil and probably bigger than both of those companies together.

I think it's a shame because I really like some of my Korg synths but I can't take this anymore. I don't think I ever will buy a brand new Korg synth or workstation again. Maybe I will buy a second hand workstation but only time can tell.

There are some aspects of the Kronos and M3 and also Triton series that are quite similar, and that's the layout of touch screen, bank buttons, modes e.tc. When the upgrade was made for Kronos to have more banks with sound, that could have quite easily been written also for the M3 and maybe also for the Triton series. Maybe there are some hardware limitations in the Triton but hardly not in the M3. Just lousy support and respect of customers.

Common Korg.... You can do better !

Actually it is not as simple as it may be. I know a little about the software of the Kronos and to add those banks is quite a major work. It's not only just extending the range of bank numbers, but also keeping in mind backward compatibility (what if an older non updated version tries to load a new PCG file or vice versa). Also sysex messages etc need to be adapted, manuals, documentation and most time consuming: testing.
Also there is no direct financial benefit for Korg.

E.g. with PCG Tools I have only one software app that can handle a lot of workstations. Of course it saves a lot of code, but sometimes it's hard to keep everything compatible because there are quite some changes between each model, especially in details (which are not covered by PCG Tools but needs to be by a complete workstation OS).

M3 was dropped some time ago, and considering its 1/9th of a Kronos in synth capabilities but its not 1/9th if the cost, I can't imagine it is still selling. However, its the first item which shows up in the Workstation product list and Kronos is second from the bottom. I don't think Korg have a clear idea of what image they want to create or what people want to buy.

OP, I got an M3 because I loved the TE and wanted to update yet was very dissappointed with the sound set, button feel, keyboard feel and overall lack of good vibes. However, I got a Kronos 61 because of a great price and I am very happy. Better buttons, good display (if you like small fonts) and fantastic synths. It is a definite upgrade to the M3. But yes, Korg still make odd design shortcuts and don't jump on glaring bugs. OS 1.6 introduced a few bugs and they are still now promoting 1.6 as sliced bread.

Frankly, all the major workstation brands have lost the plot. Small retro boxes are where the money is...

Cheers,
B

True, however I hope Korg will never STOP SELLING all-in-one workstations (or synths) for being used live.
