Casio released the XW-P1 at NAMM back in January. It's shipping and has found its way to most larger music stores. Unfortunately, we're still waiting for one to show up
around here...
So anyway... has anyone tried it out? Opinions?
Thanks.
EDIT: Maybe I should have posted this in the General Synthesizers/Keyboards section. _________________ M3, Triton Classic, Radias, Motif XS, Alesis Ion (For Sale) |

I was impressed with the sounds (and the price tab), but was amazed at how slow the interface appeared to be (no numeric keypad) and how un-slick the presentation was -- they need to hire a Rick Remandini type to pick up the pacing. There were no screen shots, not many over the shoulder "how I did it" shots or other than very cursory knob twisting tweakage.
I got the impression that it was trying hard to be a nord electro - whose video demo I had occasion to look at recently - with its piano, organ, and retro-CZ engines.
I have organ and piano covered with my main board, and even if I didn't I don't think I'd consider this my first choice for those sounds.
I think they'd have done better to limit it to just the reissue of an upgraded CZ engine ["CZ-2020", nice retro tie-in and Doofenshmertz number-"inator" for those that need it] with an improved interface and better polyphony and stack/combi options.
There were a lot of artist level users of CZ's back in the day, Steve Winwood springs to mind, and a big block of quality lead and comping synth voices would have been enough to sell a bunch of these.
Can you imagine how many of these they'd sell at $300 a pop (I'm cutting off $200 for the model without the extra bells and whistles of the other engines) just as a "spare" for gigging musicians? That would be a must have for me.
-------
And for future marketing, do "blind" demos with real bands and musicians with a reveal at the end after a burning solo or a nice synth comp turn... "and it was played on a Casio."

I went looking on the web for new videos featuring this keyboard and am shocked that nothing new is coming out from users as of yet.
I am not currently in the market but I sure would like to mess around with one . I may be in the market depending on what future videos show of it. I look forward to seeing this from the users prosepective and not that of the manufacturer. |

Got my XW-P1 yesterday. Very fun synth out the box. Sounds are thick. Editing parameters are in your face ready to be messed with. Spent 2 hours with it so far. Will post more as I get more into it but I can already say that it was well worth the 475.00 I paid for it at Guitar Center.

Thanks for your post. I look forward to your review.
Maybe some day our Guitar Center will get an XW-P1 in stock.
