Hello Korg Forum Members,

I just joined the forum and would like to take a minute to introduce myself.

I am a full time keyboard musician and have been performing in a Duo format for over Forty Years. I have loved every minute of my Musical Journey and as time goes on I'll share many things with you all if interested.

I have a New PA3X61 currently on it's way to me. My first Korg since the PA 80, which I still have and still plays perfect. However it's been tucked away under a bed for many years.

My current board in use is a Ketron Audya with four years of relentless performing on it. I purchased a Tyros 3 at the same time, however I became spoiled on the Audya's " Live Band " sound. I recently sold the Tyros because I found myself not even taking it to my gig's anymore.

Missing a second board on stage, I started with the Internet searching. First I was going to get the Kronos, then I changed to the Jupiter 80.

Finally I realized I really needed another Arranger. If my Audya went down, I'd have a tough time handling my dance crowd with a solo performance board. Hence, came the decision to go with the PA3X61. I have NOT played this board, I based my decision to buy after countless hour's watching Video's, listening to Demos and reading reviews.

So I felt compelled to join this forum in hopes that some of you will offer some help, idea's, opinions and enjoy hearing of my progress. I've been a member of SynthZone for some time...however not to much excitement going on over there.

I'll be posting my impressions and opinions and my thoughts after I've had my hands on this new girl for a week or so.

For now, feel free to visit my web site...www.southernexpressmusic.com if you have some time to spare.

I'll look forward to our discussions here and sharing some of my experience.
Thanks.
Jim R.

Hi Jim!
Great to see you here, and congrats. with new PA3X. I have been a member of this forum for many years while playing the PA80 and PA800. As you know from SZ I have played the Audya for the last two years, and you know all about my Audya problems, around xmas time I couldn't take anymore, I just had to get a new KB. I had the T4 for about 2months, great KB but not what I was looking for. Then I decided to go for the PA3X 61, and I just love. For me this is the best arranger ever. It took me some time to set it up the way I wanted, but since I'm not new to the Korg OS I could go right into editing. This is really a pro. KB. Good luck to you with your new PA3X, really hope you like it.

Hi Skude, What a pleasant surprise to see you here.

Yes, I'm getting excited about the PA3X. Maybe you'll agree, I think the overall sound of the Korg will be right between the Audya & Tyros.

I hope I like it....I'm a little gun shy after buying the Tyros3. Don't get me wrong it's a Great arranger....however like you said....It just didn't fit my needs or thrill me. After four years, I'm still thrilled with the Audya and I hope the PA3x provides the same. I came close to ordering the Kronos and even closer to ordering the Jupiter 80. I am now waiting for the 50 to start shipping, and seriously thinking of adding that as a third board on stage. Hey, ya can't have too many keyboards....right?

I'll post my thoughts on the Korg after I've had a chance o play it for about a week or so.

It will be nice being a part of this forum and maybe seeing more friends here. Not much happening on SZ. OS update coming soon from what I've read. Also looking forward to hearing/buying the new styles Robert is making for the Audya.

Let me know your thoughts about the differences between the PA3X and the Audya. What you like and don't like. Besides all the PROBLEMS you've had with the Audya.

Thanks for the nice Welcome here!!!!
Jim

Howdy, I'm here too. I loved the Audya, but find the Pa3X easier to lug around and I feel it will be reliable, although I personally had no problems with the Ketron.

Hi Jim
Take your time to set up the PA3X before you get back and tell us what you think. Just setting the MAXX audio will make a big difference. I loaded my old songbook files, which gave me a quick start, did a lot of editing to some old styles I always missed on my Audya, they sounds much better now than on my PA800. The Audya had some great styles, but you also find many that are better in the PA3X. I use a lot of third party styles and also some that comes from older Musikant versions. And it's great to be able to do all the editing. When it comes to sounds, TO ME the Korg sounds are better than the Audya, it even beats many of the T4 sounds. The size and layout of this KB is just great, at least for me. Good luck Smile

Hi Don & Skude.

Pa3X61 and PAas Speaker arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to digging in!

I hope I'm not disappointed in the overall sound.

I'll post a review in a week or so.

Jim

Jim,

Welcome to the forum. I have a Pa3x 61 and also a T4, I love the T4 but seem to be using the Pa3x more the last couple of months. I plan on keeping both. I think you're gonna love the Pa3x.

My wife and I just spent 10 days in SW Florida on vacation on Marco Island. We really love it there.

Hi stephenm52,

Thanks for your message. I bought a Tyros3 when it came out and realized it's hard to beat Yamaha's great styles.

However the polished CD audio quality of the Tyros left me wanting to hear some defined separation of the instruments making up the style/accompaniment.

I felt the Audya provided that separation I was looking for. Performing in a Duo format, it was important for me to try to sound like a band and not a keyboard player and a lead singer.

I think the Korg will put me in the middle of the Audya and Tyros as far as a more " LIVE " sound reproduction. If it does, I'll be happy. Smile

Why are you leaning more toward using the Korg over the Yamaha???

I'd be curious to know your opinions, likes and dislikes, between the two arrangers.

I lived on Marco for a year when I first moved to Florida in 1983. What a Beautiful introduction to Florida! Did you eat at the Snook Inn???

Nice vacation destination for you to choose! Hope you guys had fun.

Jim

Jim,

I've always like Yamaha and like you it's the styles that were always the draw to PSR and Tyros series. I haven't played Audya but I gotta believe the Korg will put you somewhere it the middle.

I've had Pa2x Pro and PA800 a couple of years ago. Seems to me from what I remember of the older Pa series that the Pa3x sounds better, not one of those things you can put in words. You know the old thing a picture is worth a thousand words.

There's a number of things I like about the Pa3x, better key feel, longer keys, more live sound. I do all solo work but playing instrumental stuff just seems to have me playing more creatively. The Songbook feature is just great for live play. Another bonus is it fits in a 61 key case versus have to use a 76 key case for the T4. It's just a little better fit in my Hyundai Sonata, doesn't matter much though if I use my wife's small SUV.

We have been going to Marco the last 6 years, we usually rent the same home complete with attached screened in swimming pool on the canal. It's a great escape and very relaxing. No we didn't make it to the Snook Inn, we stay on the other side of the Island off Winterberry. I bet there wasn't much there in '83?
