I don't think the technology presented in the video is meant for slide actions, but I don't think Kronos currently doesn't have it either. Don't use it anyway, I mostly use the value slider or up/down buttons...
Generally speaking, I must agree that the touch screen of my Android phone or an iPad are better then the Kronos. But you don't hear me complaining, coming from a Yamaha S90 with a much smaller, monochrome, what-the-hell-is-touch screen it's still a big step forward! _________________ Old gig setup: Yamaha S90, Roland Fantom XR, Hammond XM-1, M-Audio Axiom 61

Coming from the computer world - the Kronos does seem a touch dated for a relatively new instrument, but I do have to keep in mind that development of such a complex device requires a bit of lead-time and the market for high-end instruments is more limiting than the market for computer devices like tablets and smartphones. The world of touch screens and solid state storage moves incredibly fast, and has progressed frighteningly far in the time it took to develop the Kronos and put it out on the market proper. As far as I know, we are also looking an instrument that is almost (if not already) three years old. Those two factors don't do -any- technological device justice when measuring obsolescence.
However, the touch screen interactivity is one of the reasons I chose the Kronos over the Motif - the menus were easier to understand, the functions easier to access, and it felt more approachable. The Motif felt like it was made for engineers by engineers; the Kronos felt like it was made for a relative beginner like me to approach a serious music composition instrument like this without feeling overwhelmed. I am sure I would have been overwhelmed by the Oasys had it been in the cards for me to enter the music world when it was king. |

I like the screen, but it should have come with a cool stylus that clipped underneath, for those of us with sausages for fingers. . _________________ PA3X 76

But that's the problem; you're coming from the computer world. Because we happen to know that there's an Intel platform and linux inside, we tend to assume it should use all the latest technology any computer uses. But it still followed, as you say, the development path of a musical instrument. Compared to other musical instruments, it's actually not behind but quite far ahead. I find it funny that people complain of the touch screen because they intuitively believe it should behave like an iPad, when the competitor's screens are not even touch sensitive, JP80 excluded. |

Dunno why people pick on the technology of the Kronos. I come from the computer world, having spent 40 years in hardware and software development but to me the Kronos is a musical instrument and it does what it claims to. That's all that matters. Forget about the internals (except for adding more memory and a bigger HDD - that was Korg not thinking ahead) and concentrate on the music. If you think it's underpowered, just look at the polyphony for instance. Beats a lot of other synths. And the sounds are great. I've sequenced piano concertos and people are asking me who's doing the playing. Can't be too bad if it sounds like a recording.

Just thought I'd mention the screen. It's a bit sensitive to position so banana fingers don't work too well. I use a 6mm crochet hook (not the crochet end though) as a stylus and it works perfectly. Only trouble is you really have to be over the screen to get it right every time on account of parallax (if that's the right word in this context).

| I find the touch screen okay most of the time, but it is the occasional delays (like hitting 'append' when trying to load a .ksc - it takes at least 4 or 5 attempts for it to register!) that annoy me. However, I do recognise the Kronos to be a quite amazing musical machine capable of the most beautiful sounds. |
