Hi !

I recently bought a new KORG M50 61. My keyboard comes with the
"Made in CHINA" tag and has the serial no. 026919. I want to verify the authenticity of my product.

Further, please let me know if KORG has a manufacturing facility in China and whether the KORG products manufactured in China are of the same high standards as those made in Japan.

Any information on the same will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
Jharna Baruah

The M50 61 is made in china and is built to the same design specifications and testing as those made in Japan.

These days a lot of good quality products are made in China. It's not necessarily a mark of bad quality.

Yes, it's pointless because it's irrelevant to the topic - he's asking for a method to determine the legitimacy of the keyboard he DID purchase, an M50.

I'd advise in any case with questionable products origins, to contact your local authorized retailer. Korg would have a listing of them available on their website. They'd be able to tell you who is authorized to sell and service their products, and tell you how to spot a 'grey market' or counterfeit product.

Why that? I mean, is there some gray factory manufacturing false M50's? Or, am I missing something here?

Do you think some illegal factory in China could counterfeit the M50??? Nobody will counterfeit an electric keyboard.

@chriskk

Yeah, you wouldn't think it'd be worth it to counterfeit complex big ticket items when lo-tech things like purses or mid-tech things like speakers or mics have such a better profit margin.

On the other hand ripping off higher tech or reverse engineering it into a new keyboard - I could easily see that.

Do a search on Soviet-era synths and you'll see a lot of heavy analog machines with decidedly American (moog) and Japanese roots. Maybe we're just coming into a new paradigm where synths are concerned.

Ouuu Yez...my first synth was 'Electronica". In form factor equal to M50-61 but 35 KG of weight. Almost all due to transistors. Sounded always different and in general awfull but some positions gave extreme sounds as if you are dolphin deeply in ocean and hear voices of all other creatures for miles around. Impossible to play any melody but captivating

I guess this question came up because Korg does not allow keyboards sold outside US and UK to be registered in their websites. I'm wondering if not registering my M50 would have any impact on support - if needed?
