What is the easiest ( inexpensive) software to use with the M50. I have standard midi files that do not play properly on my M50. They worked great on my n364. I have read on this forumn that it is best to convert them using DAW. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have not had any trouble loading midi's and then playing them back on the M50 myself.
I load the file into the sequencer and then hit the drop down tab and select GM initialize.

Sometimes however files contain program changes in the start up so when you replay them they loose the proper voice locations. To put an end to this ther is a tab where you can uncheck all of the program change boxes and then save your file. Afterwards the file loads as intended.
Good luck to you with it.

Banging/clanging/ instruments di not play properly. I never had this problem with the N 364. I inserted the floppy and the sequences loaded. On the m50 I load them and I get all sorts of wierd sounds. All sequences are type 1 standard midi files from Tran trax or Trycho tunes. I have over 400.

If you are referring to drumkits I remember seeing somewhere that M50 drumkits are transposed by 1 octave compared to standard midi. So you probably have to change drum track transposes in P3:TrackParam (Pitch).

I have tried couple of times to import midi to M50 and never been happy with the result...

Here you go, just about any kind of software one could ask for and all freeware... Very Happy

If you want to see why the files are not playing properly I would suggest downloading a free midi sequencer and loading the song into that to see just what instrument should be on what track, then you can assign better than gm voicings to the M50's sequencer.

What is is that you ultimately want to do with the midi files, just play them in the software??? Any midi sequencer I know of will do that... But like I mentioned earlier, the M50 will also if it is set up correctly , you may use a midi sequencer to identify what instrument goes to which track however and you may find that to be a help in ultimately saving the file properly on the M50...
So as to your question of which one, have a look at the midi sequencer section. As far as what specific one I can not say because I load my midi's directly into the M50 and do all of my editing there as well.

You say the M50 will play the files " if set up correctly". So my question is how do I setit up correctly?. The 400+ files I have are on an sd card. I insert the card, go to media nd load one file at a time. When I press play I get the clunking sounds.. I only have 1 song that plays correctly and I belive it shows as a song file. What am I missing?

First go to global mode, then switch your bank map from korg to GM2/ Then open your sequencer and iniatalize the gm file after loading the file If memory serves me...
