After doing a side by side with Granulator II and Padshop Pro I came to some nice conclusions aside from the fact that they're both really fun synths. Granulator has three features that I really liked in particular.
It shows you the grain playback frequency whereas Padshop tells you the time... I think the frequency is more important for musical application because otherwise I have to rely on a second to frequency converter while setting the grain speed in Padshop for when I want particularly pitched grains. The RADIAS/R3 also have to be programmed in the same way, their grain shifter insert tells you grain playback speed in milliseconds instead of frequency.
Granulator II has FM. This function reminded me of Skanner XT.
Granulator II can accept live signals for processing.

With that said, Padshop Pro has a very graceful UI that makes it a joy to program. Not to mention it sounded much better than Granulator II when pushed to extremes. Where Granulator excels in grain cross fade types and MAX for Live flexibility... Padshop more than makes up for in filter and effects algorithms. Not to mention it's bi-timbral with an excellent ROM palette and presets.

After messing with pretty much every granular synth on the market I have to say that Padshop takes the cake. Other engines like Alchemy or Omnisphere are either awkward to program or have a critical flaw like not being able to upload user samples.

And jumping back to Skanner XT and its 'wavescanning synthesis' engine... I wish there were more things like THAT on the market! Synthesis types that aren't widely used are my favorite.

To further illustrate the powers of each synth I designed the exact same patch in both granular engines.

Here is the original sample:

Here's the Granulator II patch:

And Here's the Padshop Pro variant:
