Scale for Indian Classical Music

Just in case you do not have this already.

Navigate to the GLOBAL Tuning Page.

1. Select "Equal" for the main scale.
2. Select Key for the Scale. This corresponds to the Shurthi (Indian Music Paralance) you would be using.
3. Select a Preset, for example SC1.
4. Adjust the notes as described below.

Ideally adjustments to each note should be aligned to the raga one is playing. I will probably do that over time and share that. For now, I have chosen to use the following set of adjustments as the base, and is reasonably good for most ragas. Using a good Indian scale is far more important than using the Equal scale (as that could hurt and skew your ability to deal with subtle tones of Indian music).

The adjustments in cents starting with C Key are

0
-10
4
-6
8
-2
10
2
-8
6
-4
10

5. Save it to a preset.

Note: While playing, transpose the main keyboard so that the key you selected in Step 2 becomes the C key or the "Sa" note for the raga. The transpose shouls also apply to the Styles you are using.

Drum kits are a problem - since they do not transpose and Table and other drum kit sounds will be out of tune. I will write a separate note on this later.

Br Sri.

in pa 600, within a style, tabla and such drum kits can be coarse (in semitones) tuned and fine (in cents) tuned on the fly or stored in a performance.
whereas i believe one has to modify tuning of such kits at user drum kit level in pa50, micro arranger etc.

keep coming on this topic - custom tuning for various ragas.
