Currently located in the US and will be receiving an Electribe ESX1 from Europe that runs on 220v only. Had a bad experience with some cheap transformer I used for other gear from Europe.. Any recommendation? Anyone know the range? Would I just need to get an adapter? Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
I don't know with what kind of external power supply it comes.
Only 220V... is it a matter of electrics of the supply or the form factor of the wall plug?
1. You can have a look at the spec on the supply. If it allows input (wall outlet) of 110V/60Hz, then you just need a converter for the form factor of the plug (EU to US). (Or replace the original plug with a US one).
2. If the supply can only take 240V/50Hz, then you'll need a transformer in between (110V to 240V). Important thing in that case is that your transformer can handle the current that the supply+ESX can draw. The transformer must be able to deliver more current than required by the supply. Look again at both their specs.
3. You could also try to find a similar supply which accepts 110V input and generates the corresponding required output voltage for the ESX. Or a US original KORG one? Somebody with a broken unit?
If you're lucky, you end up in option 1.
Else you need to go for either 2 or 3. Personally I'm not in favor of option 2, due to one more extra piece of equipment, but it is the more convenient/straightforward option. For 3, be careful! Be sure to have a supply with the correct output voltage (AC/DC?) and similar or better specs for the current, the right connector AND wiring (polarities!) of the connector towards the ESX. With option 3 you are a bit on your own. Option 1 and 2 are rather standard solutions which should not be a problem.
