I have looked at the other threads on using microStation in Reaper and it didn't quite answer the question that I have.

First:
DAW: REAPER
Workstation: PC
Interface: MBOX Mini

I have the Editor and the drivers installed but do not see how to install the VSTi on Reaper. Do I export it somehow out of the editor? Is it one instrument at a time or do I get the entire bank of sounds in the VSTi?

I'm hoping this is a really basic question with an easy answer.

In reaper... goto preferences. find on the left side VST. select and you see that you can scan for vst"s or add a folder where a vst is located. now you just have to add the folder where the MS editor is located.

Remember that the MS editor is not a virtual synth, just an editor.

I have specified the path of the editor and don't see any reference to Korg in my plugin selection in Reaper. I'm also not clear what you mean that it's not a virtual synth just an editor.

What I'm trying to accomplish is to assign the voices from the Korg Microstation to MIDI tracks in Reaper. Is this what the plugin does or am I heading down the wrong road?

I see now. take a combi on the MS and assign every sound that is in the combi to a differerent midichannel. piano=ch 1 strings=ch 2 ect...
Make in reaper several miditracks with the same channels as on the MS.
that should do the job.

make also sure that your mbox is transmitting midi to reaper.
in reaper:
options- preferences- mididevices. enable all the devices you see in that screen exept the GS wavetable synth. leave that disabled.

Oh and dont forget to connect the midicables correctly
INxOUT OUTxIN (crosswise)

ona sidenote about the vst versus editor.... a vst is a software synthesizer wich produces sound on its own. the MS has an editor that alouws you to edit sounds from the MS on the fly in reaper. those are 2 differnt things and a lot of beginner composers have the tendancy to mix them up because they look the same in a DAW

Do I assign the channel on the MS and then reference it in Reaper.

If so, where do I assign the channels on the microStation.

yes you need to assign them both. and how to assign on the MS should be written in the manual. i dont have a MS. but itshould be somewhere under combi section in the manual. or.. if you are able to load the editor in windows itself then it should be a breeze to find.

I was able to put MIDI into Reaper and to use a voice from the MS thanks to your advice.

It's only coming through the Global Channel now, (there was a good section in the microStation manual on how to assign it), but if I change the voice on the microStation it changes the voice in Reaper too.

I am going to create a separate thread to see how to assign separate instruments in microStation to separate channels.
