Hi Korgies, (first post, but not a first time korger)

I'm considering buying an ESX1 but I don't have the means of testing one out before I take the plunge.

I want to use the ESX live, with as little external gear as possible. No computer/soundcard. So it has to be live the whole time with the sequencer constantly running.
I also want to use it for lots of improvisation. I don't to use any prearranged 'songs', I want to jam with my patterns.

I already own an ER-1mkii so I'm quite familiar with Electribe sequencing.

My question is what features, processes, menu's cannot be accessed while the sequencer is running?

i.e:
Korg ER-1 - Can only access half the menu when the Seq is running.
Maschine - Can't edit a different pattern on the same channel unless that pattern is playing.

Can you use the shift+1-16 buttons while the sequencer runs and can it sample/resample while the sequencer is running?

Hopefully I have been clear enough!

There is probably a lot that it can't do... but then it depends on what you may want. It would probably be easier if you were to download the manual- find out what it can do from there- then ask about any specific concerns that you may still have.

I have read the manual that is very good as far as manuals go. But it doesn't go into specifics of operations while the sequencer is running. It doesn't say, global menu not accessible while sequencer is running.

Sorry if the post is vague, I'll try to elaborate.

While the sequencer is running can you;

Access all of the matrix menu. So full sample editing, mid channels... Etc.
Access all of the shift menu on pads 1-16.
Resample and playback.

There is probably more but I'm on my not-so-smartphone

Hello.. You can't do any sample editing while the sequencer is running, and you can't access the shift menu. Furthermore you can't record and playback samples, or resample, while the sequencer is playing.
