|
|
Is there any chance someone from Korg could respond and let us know if they'll ever be a firmware update for the Volca series which would enable us to subdivide the incoming midi/syn- in clock signal? I know there was an update for the mono tribe which allowed this, I'm hoping that they will issue an update for the Volcas which allow greater subdivision then they did for even the monotribe. Thanks |

Anyone know if korg even monitors this forum? The organization of this company is so weird. It's like they really listen to their customers in some ways such as new product development but in other ways they don't listen at all, such as responding to emails or support for products... |

The Volca Keys of course has 3 different clock rate selections available already, but you might be into the new EHX Clockworks which provides 4 different sync ouputs all divisible. |

subdividing further would be good
>with flux mode on, quantizing is off, so you can enter
many more notes > this allows using a pattern as a
collection of mini-sequences, ie: 3,4 notes per step,
making little arpeggios, and using active step, you can
move from one to the other, it's quite creative, but runs
too fast for the sync.
could b cool with MIDI out - IF NOTE OFF COULD BE
IMPLEMENTED! |

here's a load of clock divider circuit images
a D flipflop looks good for f/2...just have to find a
schem on there with parts..
ah, what would power be like for this? what is the
sync pulse at?
looks like a 4040 could provide much slower operation,
with 8 subdivisions at outputs, starting with 1/4 frequency.
(but i haven't got a clue how to implement it, or if it would
run inside a volca) |

I use a doepfer A-160 clock-divider. An alternative would be the already mentioned EHX-pedal. |

oh right!? and it is working? i was wondering about building
some supercheap internal thing, with a few parts, that could
use the internal power.
what are the results like? you using it with flux mode on,
unquantized, for all the extra tick positions?
what are you clocking it down to, out of interest? 1/4 and less?
i got the sense that f/2 could be enough, the way i was using it.
also wondering what the unquantized resolution/ppqn is?
(would be nice to see if it could be a cv source for modular,
and/or something like the MiniMS) |

So far I used the 1/2 and 1/4 flexed and unflexed.
Another cheap alternative could be the EHX 8Step - I´ve seen a YT-video where a guy uses the first 2 steps for sending clock-signals. If this really works it would be very interesting as the 8step allows trioles etc. |

myeah, that's a pretty expensive way to do it!

I have 2 8steps and I paid EUR 95.- each and I used them (so far) mainly for my MS20mini HP- and LP-filter and/or for the VCA of my MS20mini... |

ah yeah, in that context of course. you have your modular
2-row sequencer trip nicely sorted - and you can chain them,
or course. you got a tr-626? that could be an even more twisted
way of using them lol, using patterns, patternchains, songs, to
get longer variations over time. yeah sounds v cool.
thinking about the MiniMS...
would be nice to get some useful cvs out of volca, too. ah,
i guess if you can subdivide frequency with your sequencers,
you just have to wire up those osc outputs...
still: maybe some sort of DIY unit, with comparators and a
4041(?was it?) circuit or two... |

creative workaround: in ableton midi set-up if you send not one, but multiple clock signals to Volca. This will double the speed. For that unit
Some interesting results can come from this, in combination with double tempo kick drum programming and Active Step function. _________________ Volca tips 'n tricks: http://undertone.nu

cool, can you halve the clock pulses too?
i'm thinking of computerless.
i'm a bit pissed of with the keys tonight. it has a
handful of great settings, but that is it. if you wander
off those, you get harsh envelope things.
same feelings about the bass. |

if you double the clock from one, you relatively halved the clock of the other one
this gives possibilities in combination with the extra wide BPM range (10-600) that can be selected in the setup menu
giving double midi sync clock is also possible with hardware. like a midi merger _________________ Volca tips 'n tricks: http://undertone.nu |

I'm making a small battery powered unit for exactly this purpose, basically it will divide the sync signal to 4 outputs, 1-1 (no divide) 2-1 (half speed) 4-1 (quarter speed) and 8-1 (8th speed)
