Liking the look of some of the new features, especially adjustable font size in notes, and also custom colours in Setlist.

I wonder if any of these features will be available for those of us with older models?

we should find out soon.

The Kronos 2 does have a new grand piano- the Berlin D. Part of " enhanced
SGX-2 "

Also has 200 ' artist ' or specific song Programs.

"KRONOS comes equipped with thousands of sounds, created using various synthesis modes and calling upon over approximately 21 GB of preset waveform data covering a variety of genres"

I think this 21 GB is more wave form than the prior Kronos

It doesn't look like like the new OS is compatible with the Kronos X. I just checked, and it still lists OS 2.1.2 as the latest one, but the Kronos 2 blurb said something about OS 3. Unless they haven't updated that yet.

They haven't fully updated the site. One link I clicked on brought up an admin login prompt.

The polyphony is identical, so either no improvement in hardware or the OS is performance-capped to keep it retro compatible with older hardware.

I'll bet the fan is improved. I worry about how beer-proof the top vent is though.

No mention of piano-roll seq editing, so one major thorn not addressed (for some). ASIO driver? 64-bit Editor/Librarian?

The part level meters are an improvement, but hard to see against the bright white background (why does it need to be?). I wish they would also upsize the solo/mute buttons to use more of the available surrounding space. Skeumorphism is cute, but not with sausage fingers on an 8" screen.

The shell is nice, certainly would look better next to my Sub37:( I guess Kurzweil and Nord shamed them into it. I wish someone would come out with wood end caps for the orig Kronos, Take my money!

It doesn't look like they increased the RAM, so it's probably still 32 bit inside. Maybe we'll get the OS upgrade with the SGX 2 piano engine & extra piano. The new case looks nice.

I would expect that OS V3 would be available to Kronos and Kronos X plus a free release of EXs17 and EXs18.

Looking at the voice-lists, Program Bank I-A now contain the new Berlin Piano and a lot of sounds that seem to have been ported from Burning Busch's Famous Synths release. Program Bank I-B is a fresh list as well. The standard Kronos Programs now start from Bank I-C.

the only things that really look remotely appealing to me are the setlist improvements. I'd love to see them on my "old" Kronos. Other than that, I don't really see a compelling reason to upgrade.

I expect there will be a software upgrade to 3.0 for older models. But besides that, I'm hoping I can buy the wood end panels! I hate the Kronos endcaps. Besides the nice wood look, it looks the shape is different and may make the board easier to grip (i.e. when picking up the 61 from its sides).

With the software side of things, I see the improved set list mode, an addition to the sgx-1 pianos (the sgx-2 Berlin D; only this piano appears to have 12 velocity layers with string resonance and Una Corda), and now 194 effects. This is all from the specs with the Korg site. Everything else beside a new look seems the same, if I understand correctly. In regards to the additional GB of sounds outside of the Berlin D, I wonder if these would be merely the included, but must-be purchased ex-libraries? My speculation would be possible free upgrade (unless new [?] processor in Kronos V2 wouldn't permit [doubtful]), with a purchase of an improved piano engine -sgx-2 (with included Berlin D). I-hopeIhopeIhope.- T.

The Korg site mentions DAW integration. I'm hoping for a 64 bit editor more than anything.

Editing of patches within combi or seq mode would be a huge improvement for me.

I really hope we get some of the new OS features, even if we have to pay a little.

Drag and drop display...? Capacitive then I guess?

I sense the new OS will work and be free to all users. Hopefully the new piano, too! Those wood ends look very nice. Sure would love the newer tech screen!
