Hey guys! Any drummer here or peps with time signature experience?
I chose a song to recreate on the kronos sequencer. I picked this Have A Cigar Pink Floyd song for various reasons, but I can't figure out the time signature.
There are 2 precise segments I'm missing out on, first one is from 0:48 to 0:56, and second one from 1:48 to 1:56. The whole song is 4/4 but these segments.
The way I'm counting this, I get 4/4 then 5/4 for the first segment, and 4/4 then 5/4, 5/4 for the second segment.
Is this right?
Thought I'd ask here. Always seems to be someone with the proper knowledge.
Regards,
Den |

I think it goes from 2/4 to 3/4 back to 4/4 then 5/4. _________________ Korg R3, Roland SH-201, Roland MC-909, Novation Mininova, Novation Impulse 49, Korg EMX, and a bunch of VSTi's |

For the first break I'm hearing it as 4/4 with a single bar of 5/4 at the end of the phrase. So that one is fairly straightforward; the anomylous beat is really just one bar of 5/4.
The second phrase (1:48) I'm hearing a total of 14 quarter note beats -- so 5/4-4/4/-5/4 ? -- tho the natural phrasing against the lyrics accenting strong beats might also suggest breaking it down to 2/4 (tell)-3/4 (name) - 6/4 (boy) - 3/4 (riding)?
Does that help? I think it would be tough to play against a consistent pattern - you might want to just stick in 7 bars of 2/4.
