|
|
Okay.
I've been proprogramming sounds on synths (kurzweil, some analogs) for over 15 years now. I've had various Korgs over the years, but except a couple of uncomplicated sounds I've barely scratched the surface on the Korg Trinity, Triton, Triton LE... And now the Kronos.
What I'm asking is for help in the form of me making sounds for you.
I enjoy challenges and have some programming experience, but now it's applying that knowledge to the Kronos...
Anyway I'm an avid learner and self directed but I don't want any potential work I do be just for practice. (I would hope someone can make use of it somehow instead of just busy work)
Also it would be awesome if those of you that I make sounds for might help... There are multiple ways to make sounds so I would really like suggestions on how I could be more efficient once I have some sounds made.
I'll be posting some sounds soonish... I've been working on Derek Sherinian's lead sound, as well as 'Hungry like the wolf' patches so constructive feedback would be incredibly welcome.
Thoughts/challenges?

Love that lead sound... Sure.
What do you what the controller assignments to be?
At first glance it sounds like there's some vibrato, resonance filter (wah) and feedback though the feedback seems to be a function of the filter sweeping itself but I guess it could be set either way.
Finally I personally would prefer SW2 to bounce between monophonic and polyphonic but I noticed his sound doesn't seem to have a monophonic version from these example videos.
I'll see what I can do. |

Thanks Enigmahack! I contacted the man himself (Hans Lundin) but he doesn't react. An although I can program a bit, I couldn't figure out how he did it.
Would be great if the wah-sound could be triggered by the swell pedal, but using the y-axis of the joy-stick is a possiblity as well.
I also love the octaver effect. Is it possible to do that with aftertouch? _________________ www.silhouetteband.nl |

Okay, here you go.
There's still something not quite spot on with the tone, but I blame my inability to hear the recording clearly (Youtube video and all)
It's pretty close, not 100% exactly the same but close enough that I think it's passable.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5dw45qnhzpy9nky/HansCloneEnigma.mp3?dl=0
This is the MP3 demo of me playing ala Hans.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/08qefwskdeybp0d/EnigmaLeads.PCG?dl=0
This is the PCG.
Saved into U-G, there are 4 programs and 1 combi. There's the Trinity monster lead sound, my own variation that includes aftertouch, the feedback layer and u-g003 I think is the HansLead sound.
If you go into Combi mode, I have the "Derek Sherinian" version of the monster lead sound in there too. Feel free to have at it.
Let me know how this works for you though, it seems pretty good to me generally though for a quick 30-minute attempt maybe it could have been better.
Oh and the controller assignments:
X+ on the vector joystick is the octave feedback you were asking about. The sound is naturally pretty harmonic so it'll do it on it's own too sometimes (more organic feeling)
The Y- on the lower (bigger) joystick controls the wah, Y+ is vibrato. |

Ahhh Jordan Rudess. He's actually how I started my programming many years ago. I've been his forum administrator for over 10 years, and have followed Dream Theater around the days that LTE came out.
Anyway, needless to say, I'd happily accept any challenges to re-create Jordan's sounds since... I'll probably end up doing it anyway down the road.
Let me listen to the sound you're talking about and I'll see what I can do.
**edit**
Okay, I've listened. It's the snarling f*ck*ng pig sound. (That's the "real" name of it, but they typically just call it the snarling pig)
Anyway, which variation did you want? The dark eternal night percussive version or just the regular version? |

Well, if you mean by the percussive version of it is the one where he has the "knock" sound as he described as one of the layers then no, I am referring to the normal snarling pig. I'll give you the exact time so you know what I'm talking about. Skip to 30:02 and that is the one. _________________ Kronos X 88 |

WOW: you are the man! Thanks Enigma!
I am going to try it out immediately. First impression: Sound even more aggressive than Hans' original. _________________ www.silhouetteband.nl |

I would suggest instead of going for a certain sound from a song try tackling the multi filter and see if you can come up with a good oberheim sound or any of the other famous filter setups. Everyone always talks about wanting the filters from the King korg in the Kronos maybe you can figure it out. I am getting passable at moog but no even close to the others. |

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to take a look and see what I can come up with... I haven't messed with the multi-filter very much if at all (or if I have, it hasn't been intentional) to see if I can generate some Oberheim sounds.

Interesting. I might consider this too however there are a bunch in there already. Is there something more specific you had in mind?

Okay, how's this:

This is the MP3 (Above)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ia5q7957atpcjqh/ENIGMADIRTYPIG.PCG?dl=0
This is the PCG. Loads into GG user bank for Programs, G bank for Combi.
Let me know how that works. |
