Hi,

I'm about to tear my hair out as I've tried replacing the touchscreen with two different models (2x generic ebay/aliexpress whatever) and the Fujitsu OEM replacement from Mouser. That's four panels all up, counting the original!

All the panels have the same problem, most of the screen is responsive except the top row. When calibrating, I can't press the top left corner.

But before I opened up the unit, I remember trying to calibrate and I pushed a elsewhere on the screen to get the top left to work - and the original panel changed from the bottom not working to the top not working.

I'm wondering whether there is a bug relating to the calibration, or whether something else is broken?

This is really pissing me off and I'm hoping someone here has some more in-depth ideas...

I had my touchscreen replaced with a Korg authorized part by an authorized service tech. I can't give any other suggestions.

Sadly over here in my town in Australia, there aren't any technicians who are familiar with the Korg M3...

Try getting some residue free electronic contact cleaner and clean the socket by spraying it inside, then using a lint free cloth get a clean connector from one of the cheaper generic screens or the old original one and insert into connector, spray inside again, repeat, Do this several times. Oxidation build-up could be the problem. If not, then maybe it's time to replace the whole LCD, but check the cables and connectors on that as well before replacing!

contact cleaning for flat ribbon connecter,
I would not spray direct in the connecter.
too easy to get too much and drip to the display area.

first things first back up all data.
disconnect mains and battery so every thing is dead inside.

if you have calipers measure the thick of the ribbon at the connector end.

find unprinted paper or card board that is the same thickness and make several clean sticks, spray the solvent on the stick then insert to the socket trip the latch for the socket to hold and pull out.
do this until it is clean...
white color works the best.

we also use this on relays or contactors only when the power is off.

also use unscented T paper on the ribbon side with isopropyl 95%
to clean off any residue.
then
you can get silicone dielectric grease to put a real super thin coat on the ribbon connector at the bare metal.
this should help with the working or corrosion.

hands are salty so wash first!!

tip from and old tech _me) 45 years exp in electronic repair.

salty hands and ribbon
yea moisture and salt from the skin and then touching the ribbon can cause issues... Rolling Eyes

wash hands before working on any gear and dry them well!!
if you are sweating wash hands often.

I keep the electronics repair lab 64 deg F and 40% humidity year round for this reason.

It appears to be a software glitch from korg. I had same problem, I fixed it without changing the the touch panel. I downloaded the last system update for M3, follow instruction from PDF... Then it corrected the touch panel, and able to calibrate it. The update is "M3XP_V205_E1" from korg web site.
Hope this will help lots of M3 owners.
Good luck to all.

all solutions that are circulating on the internet permanently inoperable.

the only way is, to replace the touch panel. I did this yesterday evening homemade with the following instructions (link below), it took 1.5 hours and now everything works again properly.

the touch panel costs 25 euros on the internet. if you exactly followed the instructions and the tools are available, you do not need electronics skills to do this, therefore is no need to leave the unit to a specialist...

guide:

My m3 Touch panel still working 100% for one week without having to replace the touch panel.
To be honest, i could Not calibrate any more what ever i do for 3 week, but since i downloaded the update , i left on for 2 hours and Wow it worked as good as new.
Please guys don't rush into going major steps it might cost you Big dollars. the boards are almost $400 if anything goes wrong !

Just be careful guys, most cases with faulty touch screen is a software glitch. Just install the latest System update"M3XP_V205_E1" . in the link below:
http://www.korg.com/us/support/download/software/1/141/1408/
[Bug fix]
The calibration data created by using the “Touch Panel
Calibration” command has not been correctly reflected in
the system after the power-on reset. This has been fixed.

Well count me in on the list of people who's touch panel is now completely unresponsive to any touch at all (as seen in the X/Y mode). No amount of running time or manhandling is bringing it back. The software update, which I tried months ago, had no effect on it, BTW. Guess I'll be buying a replacement panel and doing hours of grueling work to replace it. Sigh.

Thanks for the link to buy panels. Any recommendation on specific brand and model/part # for double-sided adhesive?

hi dysamoria

that's nice to hear...

if a repair would be necessary:

I bought LCD tape, there are in any electronics store or larger supermarkets. a normal, strong and thin adhesive tape would also be possible, it just has to keep on alluminium and plastic.

the proposal of Windsofsoul is of course even better, so you have everything you need!!!

I wish you success!
